OT: Watching ESPN and other channels and watching/listening to them defend Jerrah,Garrett and Romo....just brings a big ol smile to my face.

So I just looked at a Mock draft for 2014 on Walterfootball.com. I don't care what they say about who is picking whom, I was just looking to see what draft order is.

They had the Texans picking first in the 2nd round of the 2014 draft. Looks like after a couple years of alternating #1 and #2 throughout the draft, it won't happen the year we are #2. :laugh:

Maybe it's just Walter with the oversight, maybe it was a rreturn to whatever. SERV WE NEED YOUR HELP! I cannot find the rule in the NFL Rules Handbook.


This sucks! Because having the 1st pick on day 2 can be very beneficial if a team is trying to trade up to get one of those 1st round talents that slipped into the 2nd round.

OK, I have clarification on the rules for alternating #1 and #2 picks...


Once the order for the first round is determined as described above, the selection order remains the same for subsequent rounds with the exception of teams with similar records within their tier. These tied teams "cycle" picks in each subsequent round.

The last 2 years the #1 and #2 picks were determined through tie breaker because those teams had the same record.

El, I went digging and so far what I have found concerning alternating picks comes from this breakdown from a Bills blog.

The Houston Texans hold the No. 1 pick in the Draft, which will be held on May 8-10. The order of draft picks outside of the top 20 will be finalized pending the results of upcoming playoff games.

The NFL Draft will kick off in primetime for the fifth consecutive year. The first round will be held on Thursday, May 8. The second and third rounds are set for Friday, May 9. Rounds four through seven will be held on Saturday, May 10.

Below is the tentative order of the first round of the 2014 Draft, subject to the results of the playoffs. The draft order is determined by the following procedures:

(A) The winner of the Super Bowl will select last and the other Super Bowl participant next-to-last, regardless of their regular-season record.

(B) The Championship Game participants not advancing to the Super Bowl will select 29th and 30th, according to the reverse order of their standing.

(C) The Divisional Playoff participants not advancing to the Championship Games will select 25th through 28th, according to the reverse order of their standing.

(D) The Wild Card participants not advancing to the Divisional Playoffs will select 21st through 24th, according to the reverse order of their standing.

(E) Non-playoff clubs will select first through 20th, according to the reverse order of their standing.

If ties exist in any grouping except (A) above, they will be broken by strength of schedule (i.e., figuring the aggregate won-lost-tied percentage of each involved club’s regular-season opponents and awarding preferential selection order to the club which faced the schedule of teams with the lowest aggregate won-lost-tied percentage).

If ties still exist after applying the strength of schedule tiebreaker, the divisional or conference tiebreakers are applied, if applicable. If the divisional or conference tiebreakers are not applicable, ties will be broken by a coin flip.

Though Baltimore and Dallas have the same strength-of-schedule, neither the divisional nor the conference tie-breaker applies; therefore, the tie for the 16th and 17th positions will be determined by a coin flip.

The tie between Carolina and San Francisco was broken by the conference tie-breaker. Since Carolina defeated San Francisco in head-to-head competition, San Francisco is given priority in the Draft order, subject to the results of the playoffs.

Clubs involved in two-club ties will alternate positions from round-to-round. In ties that involve three or more clubs, the club at the top of a tied segment in a given round will move to the bottom of the segment for the next round, while all other clubs in the segment move up one position. This rotation continues throughout the draft.

Very odd thing to go but hey having the first pick in a couple rounds is all good .
 
I have this visual of Ryman, during the whole time we're waiting to hear the fate of Haslett, and I see Ryman pacing the floor, wearing out the carpet, like a caged animal, and puffing nervously on a cigarette, flicking the ashes every 4 seconds.

And I don't even know if he smokes.

McVay, Turner, and Morris got glowing reviews from everyone on the radio today.

It's really hard to tell who is in someone's camp (allen and snyders? or shanahans?) and who is just giving honest opinion at this point though.
