ESPN: Shanahan was ready to quit in '12

It has nothing to do with anger at another site.

Nope. it has everything to do with the local media and their behavior.

Even in good times, they lay in the weeds looking for something negative to write with bated breath.

It's not surprising that they flung crap at the wall all season until they finally got enough of it to stick.

Now, they're gorging themselves in the blood bath they stirred up.

With all the spats going on around here the last few weeks the next BGO Tailgate might have an MMA match breakout. Makes me sad. :(

I've found that if I do something else on Game Day other than watch/follow the game, I'm a lot happier. I already know we are going to lose so I check the score to find out by how much, then carry on with what I was doing (sleeping, if an early game).

Shanahan just needs to go. What a miserable GM. From another article:

You won’t know that his coaching staff is a mess. That the only reason defensive coordinator Jim Haslett still has a job was because, to get back into the NFL, he was willing to forgo autonomy to Mike Shanahan (meanwhile, the other candidate, Mike Zimmer, is coordinating one of the NFL’s top defenses). You wouldn’t know that Bob Slowik, a below average coach, was shoved into a role as linebacker coach, a role he’d never held before. You wouldn’t that that the Redskins have had 3 wide receiver coaches in four years, none of whom had coaching experience, and in the case of Mike McDaniels, had only previously had experiences coaching running backs.

What a total pos. I"m starting to think Vinny was better.

End is near for Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan - ESPN

Another interesting read. Here is one part that really caught my eye...

Now Griffin is caught up in it. Safe to say he understands how it looks for him. Safe to say he’s frustrated about how his relationship with Snyder is portrayed, that they rarely talk during the season and not about football. Snyder was pilloried in the past for his chummy relationship with players, something that was not an issue the past several years.

“I’m not going to talk about that stuff guys,” Griffin said. “It’s not relevant to the game or relevant to my life. That is my answer to that. This is ridiculous.”

But he did go longer when asked why his relationship with the coach or owner is always being questioned.

“I don’t know,” Griffin said. “I’m getting frustrated now, too, and trying to hold everything back. Some things are allowed to happen and we can cut a lot of this stuff out and it is not being cut out. I don’t know what else I can do about that. It is very unfortunate.”

This is no longer a healthy relationship, this one between Shanahan and Griffin. When these stories come out, it makes you wonder why.

“Is it calculated?” Griffin said. “I don’t know what it is.”

Shanny is probably gone.

Who in his right mind would come to this organization?

DS has poisoned our franchise.

That was my initial reaction too, but I'm not sure DS is really that much at blame here. We've barely heard his name for the last few years.

I think its ridiculous to say anything about snyder with this, what the hell else could he have done? Gave the guy carte blanche with personaelle, built an indoor parctice field, rebuilt the weight room, hired a friggin chef, paid huge amounts of cash for shannies decisions like keeping haynesworth, he literally did everything a coach could ask for.

he needs to hire a GM, then let that GM do his job. pay for the best scouts and scouting people in the league, and let them do their jobs.

Here is probably what happened it's the bye week shanahan tells a friend he is gonna clean out his office and resign at the end if the season

Friend sells story to paper that shanahan cleaned his office and was ready to quit

He hired Shanny and gave him carte blanche. His shenanigans got us knee-capped with the cap.

He's hardly blameless.

actually, lets talk about that

he hired shanny, as I recall I was the only person at BGO who expressed strong reservations about that hiring, and my reservations were based on the whole defence switch, so its not like there were hordes of people against signing shannhan. in fact the vast majority were excited.

when he made him the team president, a few more people joined me on the "dark side" because we knew that nobody who was both gm and coach had ever won anything. but that was shanny's condition for coming here.

Snyder in fact isnt at fault for the cap hit, shannahan could easily have mitigated it by trading AH but he kept him to make a point. dan could have forced the trade and saved himself over 45 million btw, and didnt.

The only way we save anything was if another team helps us out.

You weren't even registered here when he was hired. On other message boards there were alot (not even close to the majority) of us who were against Shanahan being hired based on him having this exact same setup in Denver and failing for a decade. I remember all the way back to when Gibbs was still here it being mentioned that Snyder would LOVE to get shanahan as his next coach, and I was pissed at the idea because to me Shanahan is the most overrated coach in the NFL. He walked into a top 5 roster in the NFL, they added Terrell Davis, Neil Smith and McCaffery and 2-3 others and won 2 Super Bowls. As soon as Elway retired and Davis went gimp, it was back to .500ish ball except for 2005 when they actually won a playoff game.

Regardless of who said or didn't say what, did or didn't do, and leaked what the Redskins organization is a disaster. Snyder has to shoulder some of the blame since he is the owner.

It was an embarrassment to see such an empty stadium yesterday. I'm sure this got Snyder's attention more than anything since it hits him in the wallet. The one thing Snyder, or any team, needs is fans in the seats.

I'm just afraid we are to go through this same mess every 3-4 years. I wish there was an easy fix.

Brother Ryman, your recollection is completely wrong. Your were NOT the only one who expressed strong reservations about Shanny. I went back and looked. Unless you cherry pick a few statements, there was a strong resistance to Shanny, from the majority of posters here. The only difference was, after the deed was done, most of us, knowing it was a done deal, turned back to rooting for our team to succeed. Regardless of our strong doubts about Shanny and his ability, or history. Just because you never stopped bitching, you don't get to re-write the history of the pre-hire distaste for even considering Shanny. There were many.

And, you know I agree with you as far as Shamahan being responsible for the cap fiasco.

But, I still think him getting fired now will only enable the narrative to be written in his favor.

You weren't the only one! There were others...

Actually, he was here and he was very outspoken about the hiring of Shanahan, especially of the switch to a 3-4, but he was not the only one. Unfortunately, I was suckered into believing the hype that was built up about Shanahan because Kyle was running the offense and had helped create one of the best in the NFL down in Houston.

If Shanahan isn't interested in developing the younger players and doing the right thing on the way out, he might as well be fired this week.

What is keeping him the last couple of weeks going to prove?

I don't see the benefit.

There's a lot of people that think 'developing younger players' by putting them on the field is for losers.

So I don't know how either way could possibly make things better.

Well, Houston aside, the old adage is, you don't fire NFL coaches during the season. Most "real" GM's say so.

So, to at least give the appearance of maturing, Snyder should wait until after the last game.

If anything happens today, it should be an announcement of a contract extension. Nothing else.

You are what your record is. The Redskins are losers in 2013.

After getting kicked 45-10 there is no reason to hold anything back.

This is now the second worst team in the league.

Don 't teams in that position usually start looking at different players at certain spots?

Again, Shanahan the GM had been Shanahan the Coach's biggest enemy, not Dan Snyder.

I've figured it out.

Fire Kyle Shanahan, Mike will quit, money freed up to make coaching moves more financially feasible.

For extra LOL's to end the season promote Haslett to HC and watch a good 1/3 of the fanbases' heads explode.
