The Legend
And you don't think the PR on Halbritter and his connection to the Obama campaign fundraising didn't elevate his profile on this?

You guys don't think that was a calculated move by Little Napoleon? Wow. Well, in that case, it is your LUCKY DAY! I have some BEAUTIFUL ocean front property in Nebraska to talk to you about!

Of course it was calculated. It was effective too, I thought. Those screaming loudest about the name change would have you believe that the vast majority of Native Americans are appalled by the name "Redskins" and consider it offensive and oppressive. Very quietly and in a dignified manner, a clear message was sent that there are more than a few Native Americans who not only aren't bothered by the name, but actually embrace it.
I was ABSOLUTELY calculated. And effective, I thought.
Of course it was calculated, but your assertion that it was poor PR because one of your favorite sites suggest it is, won't be bought by this crowd. Those men were extremely honored to be there last night. Before they were paraded out by the team, they were assembled right in front of me on the the sidelines. You could see the pride in their faces. I was just a few feet away from them. It was obviouys they felt honored, not used like a pawn in the grand scheme. Who are you to suggest this was a bad PR move? These men were glad to be there and I would wager they don't give a rat's ass about the name. There was a video piece on the big screen of these men thanking the Washington Redskins as they were on the field with thousands cheering for them!

Brian, I thought it was calculated and a poor decision as soon as I saw it on my TV last night. My exact thought was "that's a pretty tasteless thing Snyder is doing right now." I can think for myself, I don't need a website to tell me how to feel about something.
You're buying into this whole bill of goods your being fed. You've been a fan of this team for how long and only in the last year you're questioning the name?
So there are no ulterior motives for the folks on the other side of the debate?
Don't be that naive.
There are Oneida that have already come out and said Halbritter does not have their support.
Snyder is damned no matter what he does. If your position is that the Redskins name is intended to honor Native Americans (can anyone dispute that's the intent?), then its hardly controversial that the front office might choose to....ummm... honor Native Americans.
The team is getting absolutely lambasted and attacked from every angle on the topic, and you find it outrageous that they try and respond with some positive PR?
Mike Greenberg stayed on Mike & Mike this morning that the Redskjns name is 'obviously offensive to EVERYONE', which is just a ridiculous and patently false statement, yet he says it like its common knowledge and it goes totally unchallenged. Ridiculous!

As others have said, if Snyder really wanted to "honor" Native Americans, he'd do more than give them a little face time on National television, I don't know, IN THE MIDDLE OF A NAME CONTROVERSY. Lol. How about donating to tribes? How about doing things that actually make a difference? You're too smart to fall hook, line and sinker for this type of charade, Boone.
Who's naive here? If Snyder was giving financial support to Indian tribes the media and bleeding hearts would immediately accuse him of trying to buy favor, bribe poor victimized native Erica's, etc. I'll bet you'd be parroting the same crap here right now
The 'offensive' nature of the name is almost entirely manufactured. That's a nice way of saying those who characterize the name as some global epithet are liars.
There is no evidence even a significant # of native Americans view the name as an epithet.

People are not allowed to change their opinion? What is the statute of limitations for an opinion, Brian? When is one no longer allowed to change it?
What is a significant number? I think that changes depending on who you ask. Some here want 51% or more.
If Snyder was donating under the radar, it would be fine. Admittedly, he may be doing so, as I am not privy to his finances. But if he made a big dog & pony show about donating money to Native Americans then yes, he'd be criticized, and justly so IMO.
That's my point! Why did you change your opinion? Was it based solely on your idea that it's wrong or was it developed because a certain part of society, of which you tend to side with, has been banging the drum.
I am inclined to believe your thoughts on this are not developed from any individual ideas, but more in tune with your favorite media outlets.
Not trying to hurt your feelings, this is not an attack on you personally...just an observation. I do not believe this was an independent thought on your part, I believe it is you falling in line with those around you.
So, your assertion is that the men honored last night were easily manipulated pawns? Who are naive and think that it's okay for them to be seen in such a derogatory light?
Those bastards. How dare they allow themselves to be used like that. They are old enough to know better![/sarcasm]
No one is changing anyone's mind here.
