Random Commanders Thoughts

I like the philosophical approach. Think that way myself at times. Here's the problem (when I argue with myself!): today's NFL is about 2-4 year sprints. a whole team is never really built. you find your franchise QB and everyone else is…in some respects…a placeholder for the next guy. so the trick, for that 2-4 year period…is to have a sufficiently high overall level of talent that really, really plays as a team. with the cap (i.e., intentional leveling)….there really is no dominance. the winners are the ones who find talent and replace talent….within a system. I know…nothing new here. but us older farts know the difference - the Steel curtain dominated for a long time. that can not happen under the current construct.

Agreed, but look at the teams that have been successful. Since 2000

GB (1 SB - 10') - Mike McCarthy - 2006-Present
NE (3 SB - 01' 03' 04') - Bill Belechick - 2000 - Present
NYG (2 SB - 07' 11') - Tom Coughlin - 2004 - Present
NO (1 SB - 09') - Sean Payton - 2006 - Present
Balt (1 SB - 12') - John Harbaugh - 2008 - Present
Balt (1 SB - 00') - Brian Billick - 1999-2007
Indy (1 SB - 06') - Tony Dungy - 2002 - 2008
TB (1 SB - 02') - John Gruden - 2002 - 2008

More then half those guys were in position at least 3 years before they hit paydirt. A few of them got there fast, but fizzled out afterwards, and Bill Bellichick was the only one to win multiples, after winning it his first season.

For those of you who have studied Shanahan's years in Denver, how did Shanahan's "agile, quicker, but smaller ZBS O-lineman" survive on passing downs ? ( considering the way our smaller lineman here, have somewhat done well on rush-blocking, but get steamrolled on pass-blocking )

Does the Red Cross need to be on stand by when the 49ers pass rush lines up against Chester and Polumbus?

Well it looks like I set off one hail of a **** storm here with my cap penalty comments! :thud:

After reading all of the pages of comments today, and there was a lot lol! I am defiantly in the camp of this is probably the maddest I have ever been concerning the Redskins. I did have high expectations for the season, but saying that I never thought we would be were we are right now. I still stand by my comment that Griffins throw at the end of the game sums up this season.

What really gets me is we either have leads and turn into a limp noodle, or we give the other team huge leads and then decide to play at the end of the game. Honestly it would have almost bee better if philly would have just smoked us by 50 points then to have the attempted comeback only to **** it up at the end. We had a 14 point lead on Denver, and a 13 point lead on the Vikes. Once we had those leads, we never scored again. How the **** does that happen? Hell we almost choked away a 10 point lead to the Chargers. They better be glad we didn't or BGO would have burned the city to the ground :rotflmao:

I guess that is one of the things that really burns me, I see our fans traveling all over the country to see the Redskins play, and for what, to see a ****ty team on the field. So that side of me agrees with Travis, if this team doesn't preform how can you expect fans to keep dishing out big bucks to see them get their asses handed to them. It is so frustrating. They want us to fill the stadium and make all kinds of noise, well they need to show up and start playing before the fourth ****ing quarter.

I can assure you that if, and that is a big IF, this team ever gets good the die hard fans will not take it for granted.

Maybe one division title is all we get every 12 years......

Rant over! Looks like the profanity filters are still working good ;)

I don't know that but what I want to know is Shanahan's firing. Was it because he refused to fire the D coordinator due to the failure of his defense because Shanny failed to shore it up and they became non-competitive? That's my recollection. I sense history repeating itself.

Adam Carriker goes to IR and his season ends. It was expected after Coach Shanahan's comments last week.

Not so fast...

The Redskins just said a short time ago that Carriker is not going to IR and practiced today (Tuesday). We'll see if he is ready anytime soon.

Chris Cooley has been doing his radio show since training camp started. He's been very complimentary of the coaching staff, talking about how awesome they are are.

Until now.

Starting Monday Chris Cooley has been railing about how bad the staff is. About how they're calling plays that aren't working, but that there are tons of plays in the playbook they aren't running. That the staff gives up on players too easy, they believe in their system and they'd rather have someone that adheres to the system over someone that's more talented, that if you make a mistake they give up on you. That players actually fear the coaching staff because somehow Shanahan has the power to end players careers (I suppose in reference to Haynesworth, McNabb, and others.)

Up until that moment I really enjoyed his show - his complete about-face says to me he was either blowing smoke before, or he's learned something and is trying to be out in front of it and is now blowing smoke for that sake. I can't tell. I wish someone would call him out on it. I know he's good friends with Snyder. Maybe he heard something?

In my opinion if Cooley has switched to criticising the staff the way he is, then he knows it's over. He wouldn't do it otherwise.

Seriously T? That's not good news "if" he's lost the team and or a major housecleaning is coming. Damn I hate the way this season has gone on so many levels.

Well - seriously as in that's what's gone on. I listen to that show every day, and that's exactly what's gone on. He flipped like a light switch. I can't think of very many reasons why other than he's learned something.

Now - it's chris cooley on his radio show. Take it for what it's worth. I have no reason to think he's lying, but it's a radio show so who knows.

I want to call in on his friday Ask Cooley Anything segment and (politely) call him out on it. At this point I don't even think he realizes how dramatic of a change he's made. We'll see if I have time.

He's even siding with Fred Davis and Josh Morgan. I mean he's had some pretty bad things to say over the week and is outright mocking the shanahans "Our system is so perfect, if you make a mistake you're done, GET OUT OF HERE!", "We don't call things to put players in positions to succeed, if you can't do this one play our way you're not good enough", "We don't bother figuring out different ways to reach a player, if you're not receptive the first time to our way then screw you", and stuff like that.

Or Fred Davis.
Although I think he's going way overboard with Davis

ESPN 980 Audio Vault - Play Now

That's segment 1 on Monday. It's the start of Cooley going after Shanahan.
I'm going through the rest trying to find the other segments. I'll post them as I find it.

the song coming back from the first break makes me sadface :(

Adam Shefter said today:
- Griffin doesn't have the locker room the way he once had it.
- The 'celebrity offseason' Griffin had has worn on people
- Shanahan liked Tannehill but absolutely wanted Griffin and the idea that he didn't want to trade up to get him is bogus
- Shanahan wasn't the architect behind bringing McNabb here, but was ok with the trade. Took a "lets see how it works out" approach
- This one seemed to be something someone (read: coaches) told him, but I'm guessing - paraphrasing: If you go back and look at the plays, which no one has, he's missed a lot of plays; a lot.

Redskins now advertising tickets on Living Social

Also my boss got an email from the redskins during lunch. Buy 2014 season tickets and you get to buy the rest of the home games this year.

Good timing redskins.

LOL season ticket list. that crap's been a joke for almost two decades.

Cant say there's ANYTHING there I disagree with, OR have a problem with it being public... if what he's saying is correct.

The question is, can Griffin get the locker room back, and is he willing to do what it takes?

I think a lot of this has to do with losing. Just win, baby.

Shefter said yes. It just depends on how he handles this. I think that's the opinion of almost everyone. He could do it - he's capable. He has the talent, the smarts. He just has to do it.

This is an organizational test right now. Do the players give up on the coach? do they give up on their QB? Is ownership committed to the plan they started? Is Allen with Shanahan or with Snyder? Are we capable of taking all this cap money and spending it wisely, for the long haul?

Lots and lots of information about organization is going to come out between now and next september. This is a huge test.
