Brian Vickers to sit out the rest of the season. His blood clot issues have returned.
 
Truex to the 78 car. Not going to be announced until early next week, but the media will probably start talking about it by tomorrow.
 
Do you think that will happen? I could see it if he was further down in the points. SHR would quickly put him in the 14 car if it happens.
 
I think it will happen. It would have been different if they had an incident on the track and left it at that. When Harvick tries to spin him under caution, and then does that BS in the pit stall, that is over the limit. I have always said if you have an issue, be a man and fight it out, using the truck to or car to do it, or messing around on pit road when pit crews are out, NASCAR could also park him tomorrow for that stunt.

Kevin needs to control his temper, he is always starting something with someone. This time it could very well cost him a championship.
 
We'll see if you are right. There is no scuttlebutt about it tonight - everyone seems tight lipped about it. He's 4th in the points, so we will see. The one thing that disturbed me was the sledgehammer being used to swing at Harvick's car. If he stays in the 29 until Homestead, it could be a lot of tension that we may never know about, at least until the off season.

You can't stop in another crews pit stall during the race. That guy shouldn't have thrown it, but Harvick was 100% out of line being there, what if he hit one of those guys pulling that stunt?

This is bad for Harvick for this year and next year, what if the sponsor for next year dumps him for this crap? It amazes me how sometimes these guys don't see the big picture. Like it or not NASCAR is a corporate world...

UPS to end NASCAR involvement after 2014:

UPS notified NASCAR and Roush Fenway Racing that it plans to end its sponsorship of the sport and team following the '14 Sprint Cup season. The move comes after UPS in 2012 dropped its full-season primary sponsorship of the #6 Cup entry then driven by David Ragan. The company has shifted its focus over the last several years from NASCAR to college sports, signing one of the first national sponsorships with IMG College. UPS signed a four-year, $100M deal with 68 colleges in August '11. UPS is the latest in a series of blue-chip sponsors to end their official NASCAR agreements, including PNG and DirecTV. Meanwhile, NASCAR added HP and Sherwin-Williams as sponsors this year.

NASCAR Chief Sales Officer Jim O'Connell in a statement said, "UPS has been a fantastic partner to NASCAR over the last decade-and-a-half. As we celebrate its long and successful tenure, we also welcome seven new companies to the family of Official NASCAR Partners." UPS PR Dir Susan Rosenberg added in a statement, "UPS has enjoyed tremendous success through its partnership with NASCAR, including sponsorships at the league, team and track level. The business-to-business opportunities provided within NASCAR have proven valuable to UPS and have helped achieve desired results and accomplished the goals we set forth. The UPS decision to exit NASCAR is strictly a business decision to align with new business priorities."

Steve LeTarte will leave HMS after this season and will be in the broadcast booth for NBC.

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing has dropped the Earnhardt name and will now be known as Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Farewell to Theresa.

Edited to add that Jeff Burton was hired by NBC too.

• A victory in the first 26 races all but guarantees a berth in the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup -- a change that will put unprecedented importance on winning a Cup race during the season;

• Expanding the Chase field from 12 to 16 drivers, with those drivers advancing to what now will be known as the NASCAR Chase Grid;

• The number of drivers in contention for the championship will decrease after every three Chase races, from 16 to start in the Chase Grid to 12 after Chase race No. 3 to eight after Chase race No. 6 and to four after Chase race No. 9;

• The first three races of the Chase (Nos. 27-29 overall) will be known as the Challenger Round; races 30-32 will be known as the Contender Round; races 33-35 will be the Eliminator Round and race No. 36 will be the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship;

• A win by a championship-eligible driver in any Chase race clinches the winning driver a spot in the next round;

• Four drivers will enter the championship with a chance at the title, and the Cup will go to the highest finisher among those four in that final race.

• Overall points will reset to 2,000 for the Chase, with drivers getting three bonus points for each win during the regular season (but not Chase wins). Also, bonus points for leading a lap and for the driver who leads the most laps in a race will still be given in all but the final race of the season.

NASCAR believes that the changes will emphasize winning and make identifying a season champion easier to understand.

Under the new scoring system, last year's winner would've been Dale Earnhardt, Jr. So it does show that consistency pays off, not necessarily one or more wins. That is not a knock on Junior, just saying that it still takes being consistent.

I'll reserve judgment for a two or three seasons and see how it is implemented and administered. At first glance, I'm neutral - can see the positives and the negatives.
 
Most teams/haulers are leaving today for Daytona - a day early due to the impending snow storm coming tomorrow.

I have been thinking about this. If Jr decided to sport #3, I would still have a difficult time with it. I would understand.
