I skipped the game in Denver this weekend even though I had a flight and hotel and plans... Instead I'm on an epic roadtrip.
Sooooooo...... I had breakfast on the Hualapai Indian Reservation in AZ today, of course wearing my REDSKINS hat. Several people asked where I was from, where I got my hat, etc.... Spoke to a half dozen men about football, the REDSKINS specifically and surprisingly how well the Chiefs are doing this year. I was able to ask 4 men and 1 woman what they thought of the team name.....
I'll paraphrase ... basically they have no issues at all with the team being named REDSKINS and do not feel it should be changed. Its super old school to even use it any other way and its not something anyone cares about.
Also, I met Frederick, a young man who works at the 76 in Tusaysn, AZ who claimed to be full blood Navajo and is a vocal REDSKINS fan. He saw my hat, my sort of burgundy and gold motorcycle and my Sean Taylor halo sticker and went nuts. He knew every player, his favorite player is Alfred Morris. He joked that the REDSKINS got their name from their coach. I LoL'd. He said he understood that some find it offensive but that he didnt know anyone personally who ever talked about it like that.
I'm sure I'll meet some more people who have the right to be offended by our team's name on this trip.... I'll let you all know if I run into Mike Wise.
