DSLR camera recommendations

So did you get the D3 or D3s? Ether way your low light performance is gonna soar. Mine is pretty decent up to about 3000. My old canon of I went over 800 forget about it.
 
D3...got a great deal on it. Sent it out to Nikon to service it because I bought it used and they said other than routine service, the camera was in great shape.

From what I have been reading and a good friend has stated through his experience, the Nikon D3s is still the sharpest Nikon body out there, even sharper than the D3x (which I found kinda absurd). He has a D3s and a D4 and swears the D3s is still a sharper image producer. He even showed me some action shots he took with both...just like you said earlier, to the naked eye, the difference is negligible. Been looking for a deal on a D3s ever since and almost pulled the trigger on one a couple weeks ago but the wife wouldn't like if I exceed my budget on gear for this year by 3k. I just won't be able to swing a $5k camera body when Nikon corrects the D4 v D3s issues so I'd like to get the D3s. They just can't have a previous generation camera producing better images than their "flagship" camera.
 
Just did a firmware update on my camera. Remember to keep up with those they can add sme cool new stuff.
 
Got my new lens! Also received my new camera strap. It's from Black Rapid I bought the curve RS-7, best camera carrying device I've ever had. Shooting a wedding reception for some practice tomorrow.

That's more than my bike and all the mods and gas and hotels I've stayed in cost for the last 3 months. Crazy!

I've met a lot of guy and gals that photograph surfing professionally. Their setups are effing sick. Then they bag it and get in the water with 20+gees of equipment. Another level for sure. Easy to fall in lust.. :D

My big lens... AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR will have to do for a while... Got me up close and personal with some of these guys this week, I was very happy with the results as I try to figure this all out. We were restricted from getting too close but this worked out good enough for now.. ;)

El, I am FINALLY starting to get the Lightroom thing figured out. The things you can do with what I thought was a messed up RAW image is amazing. What settings are best for reducing high ISO noise?

Learning to use Lightroom has made me a much, much better photographer. It has taught me to shoot better so I don't need to use it so much anymore.

As for noise, what version of LR did you get? I am still using LR4 on my PC, but LR5 on my laptop and they are slightly different. The Details settings in the Develop section is where you'll find the tool to adjust for noise. It's the "Luminance" dial, but be careful...it can make the image real soft if you use too much of it.
 
And Kevin, I saw those on FB and they are some damn fine shots! The lens you have will treat you very well in sunlit conditions like that.
 
I'm using Lightroom 5. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I know right!!! There are tons of reasonable lens options for daylight pics, but pics with low light and the need for high shutter speed, bust open the wallet.

LMFAO... I was a pretty keen photoshop user from the beginning up to when they started the CS designation. I've since used paint.net (free) for quite a while because I don't have a cushy job that pays for all the cool software and haven't in a long time. I hate adobe. I've I know a guy who's been using a cracked version of acrobat x that he needs to get rid of... meh.

I'm in the market for a Canon 100-400L lens. E has opned my eyes to the used market. This add however would probably end up with me being robbed!! If its to good to be true.......

MAJOR SCAM!

Anytime you see a hotmail account, 99 times out of 100 it's a scam.

Bob, if you feel uncomfortable with CL, which many do, go to B&H or Amazon and check their used listings. For purchasing glass, you'll be fine but I wouldn't rush out and buy a used body again. My D3 is awesome, but I needed to send it away to get serviced not long after I bought it. Luckily, the damn thing had a warranty that I did not know about so the work was free because it was a simple service.

Right now unless something great comes up I plan on getting any used glass get at Photocraft in Burke, VA. You can go there put it on your camera and try it out. Plus they have a good rep.

Will, do. With these converters tough you have to really pay attention to which lenses they are compatible with. They are generally only compatible with tele or tele zoom, and mostly 2.8 or faster. Some do work on f4 and higher lenses, but be darn sure your lens is on the list. The sticking point seems to be the autofocus. If the converter cuts the light down to much the focus then screws the pooch.
