I think he was happy to be free and happy to be done with the entire situation, but he has lost everyone important to him in his life (including Mr. White) so he's definitely not a happy person. That's what I meant.

EDIT: not to mention, his salvation came at the hands of the one person he hates the most (or hated the most, until Todd killed his friend).

EDIT 2: As to his screams as he was leaving the compound, call me crazy but I thought those were screams of rage for not being able to kill Walter when he had the chance.
 
I am a lover of the small details that are woven into shows like this. Sometimes they make no sense to me. That's not a negative because they cause me to think. Like this-

Numerous police cars arrived at the compound after the massacre with lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Who called the police? Surely not their neighbors. Was it Jesse? Lydia?

I also drew a quick false realization when Lydia called Todd and Walt picked up. Lydia with her hair down and makeup off looked like Gretchen to me. I thought: Holy ****! Gray Matter was really the parent meth company! Then I realized my mistake. Would have been an awesome twist though. Eliot & Gretchen giving all that money to meth rehab as a cover.

And, why was Gretchen so hostile toward Walt?

He also really valued Mike. Walt killing Mike was another nail.

Walt told Skylar that the police "would be coming to him." To me, that implies he somehow let them know where to go; possibly he told Jesse's friends to call at a certain time, or he had someone else do it? Who knows. But I think he was always intending to turn himself in once the deed was done.

I can't remember exactly what happened, but Walt was pretty hostile towards them earlier on. She was also pretty pissed off when she found out Walt was using her in his web of deceit. Just the fact that he was a wanted drug kingpin could have also explained it.
 
It's funny about Elliot and Gretchen. He only appeared in two episodes prior to the finale (the Charlie Rose episode and the party at his house) and she in four. One being the phone call to Skyler about the money for cancer treatments. (Source- IMDB)

One of the best quotes of the entire show. Only one better was when he said to Hank in the garage, "If you don't know who I am anymore, I suggest you tread lightly."

In the finale, Walt employs Jesse's cohorts Badger and Skinny Pete to help scare Gretchen and Elliott into delivering Walter's money to his son. The pair then shares an exchange that's the most overt shout out to fans in Breaking Bad history:

Badger: I don't know how to feel about all this.
Skinny Pete: For real, yo; the whole thing felt shady morality-wise.

They feel us. This chamber has an echo.

Perfect.

 
Disappointed that his son will get the money. Gilligan took the shallow way out.

Still, a good ending (and way better than the Lost ****show ending).
 
Meh...I was glad to have taken the ride, but am not as enthusiastic as you guys. Then end was pretty predictable, Gilligan bowed to the public's desires. Not that I was a fan of the way Tony Soprano died, gotta give them credit for their willingness to do it their way.

Overall, I give this series a straight A! Not sure it was the best series ever like Lanky, but I liked it a lot. I was very happy to be a part of the finale.

Oh and Jesse is a pussy! He should have shot Walt right in the head! The final straw was when Walt told him that he watched his girl die in bed next to him...

Oh no, I don't put this at the level of The Wire. Its top 5 for me, though.
 
The Wire tops this for me, hands down. Just the breadth and scope of The Wire was something special. Although I would rate the final season of Breaking Bad better. Season 5 of The Wire was pretty ridiculous. Simon should have stopped after season 4.

My Dad gave me 'The Wire' on dvd. I have watched the first couple shows multiple times. I really can't explain it, but I found it boring. I know, I know...greatest series ever...supposedly, but just cant get myself motivated to keep watching. Convince me...

Everything's not for everyone? If you've gone through three or four episodes and not gotten hooked, it's most likely not going to happen. I was drawn to it because it's a real story, has wonderful casting and character development, and covers a different aspect of the problems faced in a major American city each season.

The Wire is consistently rated at the top of the list of almost any tv series viewer rating vehicle in existence. There must be a good reason for that.

For myself, The Newsroom is also a fairly recent show that receives a great deal of acclaim. I think it's insipid and a step above soap-opera status. Just not for me. Simple as that.
 
Yay! I can finally read this thread! We werent able to watch any of this season until last week and just caught up last night.

Good solid ending.

Yeah...season 5 of the Wire was the worst, IMO. A lot of people hated season 2, but I actually really liked it. Agree that The Wire is still top dog in the 'All-time' show rankings.

It takes a couple episodes to really get the plot going, so maybe that's it. Episode 3, for example, is the first time we ever hear from Lester Freamon, one of the main characters on the show. He becomes integral to the plot later on.

Personally, I was hooked with the very first scene, between McNulty and the guy talking about the murder of "Snot-boogy." One of my favorite scenes of all time:
