Thats very positive Chris...but 0-2 is the stat I'm concerned with at this point.

I don't even care about the 0-2. 0-2 is over-comeable; lack of tackling ability and general ineptness on defense is not. :(
 
yeah, but again on paper everything looks fine.

Morris ran for 107 yards and averaged 8 yards a carry.

Griffin has thrown for 329 and 324 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2 games.

But the reality as we all know is that much of that production has been in garbage time.

This team has looked fetal in the first quarter of these games especially.

The offense seems tentative and scared to make a play or put themselves out there.

Underlying that one way or another has to be a result of the by-play between the Shanahans and Griffin as the qb.

Trent Williams is Trent Williams. Morris is healthy. Garcon seems healthy. Reed has been making a greater contribution than expected so far for a rookie that missed basically the whole offseason of work.

The only guy that is really MIA is Fred Davis. I don't understand how a guy goes from being 'primed for a breakout year' as he and the coaches all talked about, to being essentially a backup. That situation has not been explained yet.

If it takes Griffin 3 or 4 weeks to find his game, BUT HE FINDS IT, then I am fine with accepting that we may be a late running team to a 8-8 type record, stronger in December and early January.

My concern is that Griffin stays out there and we go into the bye at 1-3 or 0-4 and the season is basically over from a competitive standpoint and we get no evidence that Griffin is turning the corner to being an elite player again.

I think more than few share your concerns about Griffin "getting right" . Fred Davis seems to be getting phased out a little. We all know he will not be here next yr and will go to the highest bidder in FA. I couldn't care less about Fred Davis... Reed and the Caveman should be just fine for us this year.

Personally, I am a bit tired of Davis and Meriweather. These guys are never 100% and ready to play, and then when they are they end up doing something stupid like Brandon did last Sunday.

Oh no doubt, DM.

I guess my point was that AM, a 1600+ yd. back last year, is averaging a very-unShanahan like 3 carries per quarter/12 per game.

If Griffin can play but has to learn to adjust his game, you have to let him. He's 23 years old, and despite last year's heroics, he has a lot to learn and has a lot of growing to do. Its not just his health. Hes healthier than he was against Philly and Dallas last year when our offense was still productive as hell. He needs mental reps, and if we weren't going to be patient enough to give him that wr shouldnt have spent so much to draft him.

You put Cousins in when Griffin CANT play. Not when you think letting Griffin play is inconvenient.

I see where you are coming from and agree that once they decided to start him they were committed to seeing this through.

at least they were competitive in their two games so far.

we have so far to go just to get to that point.

Sav Rocca at 40 looks like a no-brainer for replacement during the season. He is killing us in the field position battle.
 
Why havn't we heard anything about Tanard ?
Has he not actually applied for reinstatement, is that why ?
Or is the league just farting around, on the issue ?

And it's Wednesday evening, so we should have heard something by now on the concussion status of BW.

dont know about Merriweather's health status but just got an NFL update that he got fined $42K

But what is it gonna teach him? He got concussed.. He plays harder then his body can handle... I'm over him, and I'm not usually one to throw in the towel on a player. It's one thing if he plays hard and makes mistakes (ie. Sean Taylor early years). It's another thing if he plays recklessly and ends up hurting other people as well as himself in the process... If you cant stay on the field... you dont GET on the field. PERIOD
 
OT: Cleveland just traded Trent Richardson to Indy for a 1st round pick next year.

Guess the liquor flows freely in the Cleveland Front Office......
 
Mike Lombardi is the GM there, and is into some of the advanced metrics and analytics that are the "new wave" of things. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers showed a less flattering side of Trent and that's why they moved him.
 
Browns lost the chance to get a franchise QB in Griffin. They will not make that mistake again (but this is the Browns we're talking about). This is about getting a (perceived) franchise QB in the 2014 draft.

Yeah this is the only thing I can think of... wanting to make sure they got their guy in 14'.. but WHO is coming out next year that's so enticing??

I guess depending on how the Colts finish, the browns could trade BOTH their 1st rounders to get who they want.

I'm sure we'll see a contract extension before the season is over for Shanny. He's not going anywhere soon, bank on it.
