The down to final 53 thread 2013

I hate that we let Minnifield go. I think that's a very short-term decision. I saw no signs that the knee was bothering him and thought he was one of the more solid DBs heading into the season.

The strong rumor going around right now is that we are hoping to stash him on the PS for 36 year old Winfield.

Winfield is great, no question. But very risky to believe some team won't sign Chase after a few injuries to their own players.

I guess we're keeping Royster and Thompson with Keiland being shown the door?

Yep.

Redskins don't have plans of adding Dawson to practice squad, source says.

If Minnifield makes it to the PS, we get first refusal if someone else signs him, right?

Why would anyone TRADE for Pat White - as soon as we approach someone about it, they know we're going to release him. It makes no sense.

Other notable cuts, Vince Young, Tebow gone.

Vince Young is surprising.

Maybe the Jets should pick him up :)

One person familiar with the #Redskins' decisions said there's been discussion of keeping Pat White instead of a sixth WR. Food for thought.

Also, talk of a possible trade with Titans or Bills.

Remember that in shrinking roster from 75 to 53, #Redskins need to cut 19 players not 22. Jenkins & Jackson suspended, Mo Hurt likely PUP'd.

Don't teams attempt to trade players they're about to cut, all the time ?
The advantage to trading for a player about to be cut (to the team receiving the player), is you get first dibs at him, whereas, if he's cut, doesn't he have to pass through a certain order of teams allowed to claim him off waivers, based on their previous record ?

I guess that's technically the case, but I guess my view is, if the player is at a talent level where they can't even make your roster, what are the odds you're going to pull off a 'trade' for him. Just doesn't seem very likely.

Pat White may be discussing it :) No WAY we keep 4 QBs. Not going to happen.

Here is the current thinking. The Giants and Eagles would love to have White on their roster to help learn the ZR system. White either stays or gets traded.

Well, every roster's competition is different. One team may be extremely deep at a position, and another team may be extremely weak at that position. Making one team's trash, another team's treasure.

Fear - I do follow the NFL :) I get it. We're talking Pat 'not in the NFL at all before Redskins took a flier on me' White here. I just don't see anyone 'trading' for him. It's not like he's some coveted hot property. If I'm wrong, I'll take my beating. But I don't think I am.
