4th Annual BGO Ballers Fantasy Football League

You have some great pieces in place. But Jennings is old, trying to learn a new system, and has a guy named Christian Ponder throwing to him.

Flacco is frustrating as hell in FF during the regular season.

And Daniel Thomas will split carries, at best.

Just some ideas. They may all turn out to be great.

Yeah, Daniel Thomas was autopicked last cause I dropped. I swapped him out already.

And while I agree with you with Jennings, I think he will still get significant touches on occasion. Just a matter of guessing.

Drew Brees/Jimmy Graham back to back was a pretty interesting strategy...I'll be really interested to see if it pans out.

Well I was picking 14th, and no good RBs went undrafted.

So like Boone, I could either guess on who the 13th best RB in the league might be, or I could get one of the best at another position. I have zero interest in gambling on the 13th best RB in the first round.

WR is too inconsistent, so I had no interest in Megatron. Instead, I went with a great QB, and a difference maker at TE.

While I've never waited so long to draft a RB before, it worked out well, with the 14th rated Gore still there at 41.

Last year I found Steven Ridley in the 6th. This round I'm hopeful that Bernard is the same. We'll see. It definitely went against what all of the pundits were saying...RB/RB etc.

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, I missed the beginning, the end, and most of the middle of the draft. Going to see what I wound up with right now.

I can tell everyone, from the brief moments I was there last night, that Dez Bryant is on the trading block.

Jennings will definitely have a lot of passes coming his way. Age and familiarity with the new system are the only concerns. He definitely has the talent.

Not liking my draft. My strategy coming in was to go Running Back heavy in my first five picks, grab promising receivers ready to hopefully break out, and wait on a QB as long as I could. I stuck to my strategy, but think I was a bit too fixated on drafting according to position as opposed to taking the BPA. Could haunt me in the end. I'm also concerned about the injury risk that several of my guys carry with them.

Arian Foster (RB)
Matt Forte (RB)
Rashard Mendenhall (RB)
Pierre Thomas (RB)

Danny Amendola (WR)
TY Hilton (WR)
Mike Williams (WR)
Golden Tate (WR)
Mohammed Sanu (WR)

Greg Olsen (TE)

Arizona (DEF)

Steven Hauschka (K)

Sam Bradford (QB)
Carson Palmer (QB)

* somehow, Yahoo gave me a Grade of "B" picking out of the 11th slot.

* note, I'd feel a lot better about this draft had Lanky not snagged Lamar Miller in the 4th right before I was ready to take him instead of Rashard Mendenhall. It was amazing how thin the running back depth was by round 4.

Well this is why I consider the 'draft position makes no difference' stuff nonsense. It makes a huge difference when you can't grab a top 10 RB IMHO...not complaining - it's luck of the draw but it does matter when RB quality is so essential. Anything can happen though. I'm hoping one of my rooks is this years Almo.

Haha I'll take him... make me an offer!

Draft position totally means something. In a 14 team league draft strategy changes considerably, you can't just go RB RB RB because its a long wait and people are gonna go with WR and QB before they would in a smaller league. You can try to get one good player at each of the offensive positions instead but TE is funny though, once a couple/few top guys are gone you can't waste a pick on one early.

Its tough being towards the back of the 1st round...

I got lucky to be in the middle and still got a decent RB but then I jumped to WR and QB in rounds 2 and 3 afraid I was gonna have a couple of mediocre RBs and no other skill players... I did OK I guess but none of us will know until the games are played. Don't undervalue trades and waiver claims.

This league doesn't trade... were there ANY last season? Never been in a league with such a lack of trading.

As someone who went RB, RB, RB, I have to disagree. Not that other strategies will not work, but in my opinion the RB is still king in the world of fantasy. I did get screwed out of a QB, although I'm pleased by the sleeper potential of Tannehill and Dalton will be rock solid this year (although not spectacular). WR is by far the deepest position in fantasy, and there is always a good play on the waiver-wire based on matchup (read: any WR playing the Eagles is a must-start!).

Also, I was the 9th pick and still ended up with 3 starting-quality RBs in Rice (which you called), Ridley & Lamar Miller. Ridley is really the only one in a time-share situation (Vereen is more of a C-O-P back though), so I'm pretty pleased. Miller is a gamble because the Dolphins are not a good football team, but I think he will surprise this year. I'll definitely get RB3 value out of him, IMO.

I'd like to change that this season...any ideas on how to spice up the trade market?

Well I should have said you can't always go RB RB RB... You can, as you did, but you have to have a plan for down the line something that tends to go out the window quickly for many people. I like Dalton, but I wasn't sold on any second or third tier QBs this year with QB's getting less points than last. Although I like Tannehill Mike Wallace has got bust written all over him in my eyes. I got Cutler in the 9th or 10th I think? I can live with that. I will never count on a Patriots RB again until Bellicheat is gone. Too many bad experiences for me there. I think RB is where you can find quality depth on waivers and take gambles holding them for stints to see if they pan out. I just didn't see any value at RB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds honestly. THe ones I wanted got gobbled up and I had to adjust. I struggled mightily over taking Cam Newton in the third he can be a real juggernaut I just wanted to play it safer with the 48 year old Manning.

Oh, I changed the QB scoring back to what it was last year - I posted it in this thread and you even liked it, I believe! :)

Well that very well could be, I remember I "liked" the fact that you posted the scoring, but of course, I did not take the time to look at it in detail. :lost:

I'm not too worried about the defense hole in my team. I'll grab one, no sweat. I kinda wish I'd stocked up better on running backs for my bench.....but was trying to get some quality across the board. I may not too many big names on the WR side, but I think at second look you'll see I was trying to load up on that "go to" guy for big name QB's. Decker does well with Peyton and Austin does a lot for Romo. I hate Romo, but he does put up numbers and I figured he's a good backup if Luck goes down or for his bye week. Forbath was a reach....but in the Redskins league just figured I'd grab him early. Way I look at it, the Redskins should be in the red zone a lot. If we score TD's, he gets singles. If we don't, he'll get opportunities for a lot of FG's. I'm a little disheartened by my bench at the moment...but you never know who'll step up. I'll adjust as I go.

For now...I'm considered 14 of 14. We'll see where this goes.....

I don't necessarily agree with this. Last year I drafted 11th and all the stud backs were gone. I drafted C Johnson in the first, Gronk in the second and Matt Ryan in the 4th. My top back was DeMarco Murry all season and he spent half the season hurt. My second back was the Law Firm. I never settled on a defense, playing the defense with the best matchup each weekend.

And yet I played in the league championship game.

Now I know guys will look at first paragraph and say "Well sure your team was good with Johnson and Gronk." However, while Johnson set a league record for yards he had a hard time getting in the End Zone all season. Gronk was hurt a lot and while he was the #1 or #2 fantasy scoring TE in the league I didn't have him for the playoffs. I got there with late round picks Reggie Wayne and Owen Daniels starting a lot.

Maybe having a stud back helps. I don't know. This is the first year I have ever had one but I don't anticipate this year being easier than last year because of it.

Here's my team currently.

Well, I was in the top third of the league in total scoring and finished almost last in the standings (and that's the same thing that happened to me the year before - everyone had a career game when they played me). Luck plays a part. I think it's hard to argue that being in position to grab the best backs isn't critical. They represent by far the most consistent points potential. It's not ONLY about that, but saying (as some do) that draft position is meaningless, I just don't get that argument. Again, not bitching, I'm going to take more risks this year. Playing conventional wisdom hasn't gotten me anywhere.

I totally agree that luck plays a part and last year you seemed to get everyone's best weekend. I'm not sure how that happened but it was uncanny.

And I really like your team this year, John (as I think I said earlier). The only spot I don't like on your roster is TE and Finley doesn't do much for me. I had him two years ago and was totally underwhelmed. If anyone other than Rogers was throwing him the ball I think he would be unplayable. Otherwise, you team looks great and you could have this year's Alfred Morris in Ball so you might have your stud back anyway.

Yeah, that was kind of a deer in the headlights pick for me. 2 minutes goes fast when you are torn on what to do. I may well play Zach Sudfeld instead of Finley if he doesn't play well. I'll have fun playing whether or not it works out or not :)

Finley is a fine player, its the animosity between him and Rogers that makes that play weaker. I wish Rogers would just use him more, he can be a helluva target.
