what's up with Robert?

Running wild with speculation? Reporters generating a story out of nothing? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Couldn't happen in DC! :)

Didn't realize taking a person's direct quotes was 'running wild with speculation'

Can't wait to see how you'll package up Griffin's father's comments.

He can package them anyway he wants to ... It's really okay that not everyone agrees with your take on all things :)

Collinsworth is an idiot.

Why? Because he's absolutely right. This was a non story. Robert shouldn't have said what he did as it only stirred a controversy in the media and among controversly loving fans. Him wanting to be on the field and Shannahan holding him back is and always was a non issue. Players and coaches butt heads over this type of thing all the time. It is not an indicator of any turmoil to be concerned about. His transparency got the best of him. He'll learn, probably has learned now, he has to be much more guarded with what he says.

Yeah, I'm aware. He thinks I'm an idiot for thinking there's something to this, I think he's a jackass for writing off disagreeing opinions as just trying to stir the pot and constantly saying so.

It's all good. Just opinions.

But according to everyone else it's the media and dumb fans stirring the pot, not Robert. Robert can do no wrong.

Anyways, Cris Collinsworth is an idiot regardless of him making a correct statement here and there. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. :)

Collinsworth is an idiot.

I often agree. In this case though, its pretty apparent that this is a mostly non story. Robert could definitely have answered the questions in a way that would not have facilitated all of this speculation, but thats about the worst of it in my opinion. The press is just eager for news and a controversy to talk about.

I don't think you're an idiot. When did I say that? I think you've fallen hook, line & sinker for media-created controversy. You're the target audience. :)

No. You are pulling a PA here and misrepresenting the argument. Nobody ever said Robert could do no wrong - we are saying this is a non-issue, so there isn't anyone "at fault."

while I agree "this too shall pass"....it's not a non-issue. it goes into the books. it becomes part of corporate memory. from day 1 I have been one of RG's biggest supporters/fans - for reasons that go way beyond football. the sequence of events since the Seattle game have been interesting and revealing. we are seeing more aspects of our star QB's character/personality. I think T & El are right about the ego aspects of this though I am not inclined to give it the weight they do. Robert Griffin is headed for a life of accomplishment that goes way beyond football. he also knows he's in a business, a big business. we're getting to watch him build his relationship to his environment, figure out what role he wants, determine what he wants in return. Since I believe in his fundamental intelligence and rock solid character, I view all of this as a voyage we get to watch and enjoy - not stress over.

major surprise - he's human!

He's human? Next thing you're going to tell me is that his **** stinks too!

I agree with you - I'm not sure how I got put on the side of "Robert is not human" in the argument. I'm on the side of this is generated controversy, because there is nothing there. Should he have been as candid as he was? Maybe not, but the point is, the media & overzealous fans took his comments and ran with them; there never was any "controversy" there. Just a kid who wants to get back on the field and play football. I guess we could always long for the days of Jason "Personality of Dry Ice" Campbell.

Griffin has to be smarter than this. The press here is looking at a division winning team from 2012 and can't wait to find the first cracks or fissures in what up to now has been a feel good story.

Griffin also has to take responsibility for what happened in the Seattle game. He told Shanahan he could play and from reports told Trent Williams not to tell coaches he was as hurt as he was.

So, the national press reports that Shanahan left Griffin out there to get killed for his own glory. That's not true and it's not fair.

One could make the argument that Shanahan should have SEEN Griffin struggling and yanked him from the game at some point, but again the player is in charge of his own career in this day and age in the NFL.

So far Griffin has let Shanahan twist in the wind over the debacle in the Seattle game and at the same time has been critical of any plans to curtail his own aggressive plans in re his schedule to return.

He seems to want to have it both ways, sidestep criticism for stubbornly remaining on the field last year and getting reinjured but at the same time being ahero for coming back early from the surgery.

I noticed a quote yesterday from Griff's father. I like what he had to say in this one sentence. Roughly paraphrasing here, but he chimed in with "I hope my son passes a lot more for the next fourteen years instead of running so much".

The fourteen years part is what I like. Most fans seem to focus on having RG3 as our QB for the next decade. I was hoping for fifteen plus years and it seems like his father concurs - probably via the 3rd himself.

I agree that this is largely a non story. It's good to see that RG3 is thinking of a long career and that bodes well for our beloved Redskins. Coach Shanahan continues on for a few additional years and moves up to the front office. Kyle takes over and keeps the train on track. Folks, we finally have the franchise QB of our dreams and the continuity that fans have craved for many years.

It's great to be a Redskins fan. Hail!

I guess my interpretation of your numerous posts categorizing anyone that believes there's something to or discusses this story as overzealous, lacking common sense, stirring the pot or drumming up controversy over nothing, or telling me that I'm playing the hell is different than you intended. I could write the book "Condescension for Dummies" if I had the time, it doesn't get past me very often.

I find it funny how everyone that has talked about/written about it in the media is considered to be an idiot just stirring the pot, even though some of them were pretty much unanimously considered the best of the best in analysis on the team just a week or two ago (Keim anyone?)

Just returning the favor.

Whatever you have to tell yourself, bud. I wasn't calling you an idiot. Calling you overzealous is not calling you an idiot. Saying we can "use common sense" is not saying you are lacking common sense, OR calling you an idiot. Saying you are stirring the pot is not calling you an idiot. Saying you are drumming up controversy over nothing is not calling you an idiot. Etc., etc., etc. "Playing the heel" is the same as playing the villain (devil's advocate, if you will) - also not calling you an idiot. And even condescension, if that's what you read into my posts, is not calling you an idiot.

So, if you find where I called you an idiot, please let me know and I will edit.

The best of the best are still trying to sell papers/get ratings. Just because they are insightful when it comes to the football side does not mean they are not going to push a little controversy to sell papers.

Just returning the favor.

I'm misrepresenting your argument? How so?

Take it to PM guys.

I'm interested in what he said in that interview. GQ only really leaked the part that makes it look like he's again taking shots at Shanahan. There could absolutely be some context there that changes that, and GQ could absolutely just being trying to bump sales.

It'll be interesting to see if that's what he actually did, and if he did what Griffin's response is going to be when he's asked about it... He can fall back on him not being able to control his dad, but at the end of the day he's sitting in interviews with his dad while his dad takes shots at his coach. He could easily put a stop to it if he wanted to, and everyone knows it.

Griffin will learn to talk less, then there is less to explain later on.

Michael Jordan was the master of getting endorsements and being in the public eye, but he never got cornered into discussing internal team dynamics, politics or other issues which could be divisive.

RG3 is still learning.

I found this bit of article on the breakfast links funny, in relation to this:
Breakfast links: New York Giants' 'multiple' looks - ESPN

Jason Reid thinks Robert Griffin III needs to stop questioning Mike Shanahan's plan for his recovery in public. I mean, I'm not down there, so maybe I'm reading things all wrong, but I don't see all the wrong everyone seems to be seeing in what Griffin said. And I'm really not comfortable with the idea of telling someone what to say and what not to say in their news conferences. Griffin and Shanahan need to get along, obviously, but there's little if any real evidence that they're not. The kid wants to play, and when someone asks him if he wants to play, he says yeah. But it's a terrible idea to play him in a preseason game right now, and it's Shanahan's job to make the right decision for him and for the team. Whether he likes it or not. Griffin appears to know this. I honestly don't see the problem.

Unfortunately issues like this may cause him to stop talking a lot, and I wouldn't blame him at all. Instead of realizing everyone wants to hear from him, they really do, they just don't want to hear him talk the way he did Monday (the two answer he game, those of us that didn't like what we heard.)

I think he's smart enough to know the difference, but I certainly wouldn't blame him if he cut back the public stuff.
