heat kills electronics. if it gets hot enough it causes things to pop/melt/etc.
it's more of a problem while the equipment is running because if it's 90 degrees in the car it's probably 130 in the case where the circuits are (if it is running)
just don't leave it in there any longer than necessary, and don't turn it on until it's had a chance to cool off.
same goes for cold, but you have a much lower risk with cold than with heat.
i've had to deal with all kinds of equipment failing because it got hot in a room.
