The Work Thread

I've spent probably 4 hours this week backing up and wiping a laptop from a terminated employee. Then resetting it and installing all the software for the new guy that starts in a few weeks (i love doing that, new people are awesome and they love getting nice new stuff)

Just got told he's getting a macbook and everything I did is a waste

**** youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

This may or may not come off as offensive. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, it's not meant.

What the hell is with you old people and weather? Any time it's about to rain everyone in this office I work in stops what they're doing and starts monitoring some weather website's radar. Then it rains and everyone runs around 'It's raining, it's raining.' Get a flood warning/watch? Oh my god I'll never hear the end of it.

The clouds turn slightly gray and it's like someone pulled the fire alarm.

Last week a bunch of people turned off their computers because it started raining... just in case...

in case of what?! It's rain! do you have skylight you leave open or something???

I couldn't imagine running a company where all my employees stopped working every time the wind blew over 10 mph.

Happenstance has me applying for both a new leadership role within my current company as well as a great role with Price Waterhouse Cooper.

I'll be fine if neither pan out but I sure would appreciate a change in career lately. getting burnt out quickly.

Update: Ive had 2 phone interviews for each of the roles mentioned above. 3rd interviews (vid conference with PWC and face to face with the internal one) set up.

I really would love the PWC one, huge pay increase and perfect fit.

Good luck, SS! Just take that 3rd interview to the house like Bob Griffin the III against Minnesota!

I've noticed this phenomena among people of all ages...maybe you just work with more older people? Lol. I do this too, but I don't know if I'm considered "old" from your young point of view. :)

Yeah, I'm a bit sheltered in my work experience. In terms of having an office job I've worked with pretty much the same people my whole life. I interned with the people that own the business I currently work at.

So maybe I'm sheltered. I like paying attention to hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes... but every time it rains it's like an event now.

I'm weird though. I don't like chit chatting in the office either.

O. M. G. Got a look behind the curtain this week and I'd like to take the Blue Pill next time please. Holy Hell. Being in the Field insulates me from knowing about all the workplace politics and stupidity that take place at corporate. I got a small sniff of that **** this week and have never been so glad to leave.

OMG - Word just crashed and I thought I had lost 2 hours of work, because it restarded without an auto-recover pane. I was about to drop-kick my computer off the roof, but I went to the auto-recover folder, and found my documents actually HAD been autosaved. It was like winning the lottery!

So my boss's boss sends out an email memo last week telling us when and where our Winter Meeting will be, for planning purposes. 5 days later, today, my boss forwards that exact email to all of us with a note saying, "Team, see below".

Is it because I don't get enough emails in a day? You know what pisses me off the most? I am a commissioned sales professional (last word is debatable) - I don't get paid unless I sell something. Ergo, anytime I am NOT selling, I am not making money, I CAN'T make money. So leave me alone so I can make you look good, and make me some money...

Yeah, the number of people that don't understand how email works astounds me.

It's fine if it's not something you use all the time. But if you're job/company communication revolves around email (like most office jobs these days) you don't have an excuse.

We have people that try to notify us that their internet is down by sending us an email.

If you don't get it, pause for 30 seconds and read that last line again.

Technically, our internet could be down but the email servers/network are still up. So, I could send an email to IT if the internet was down. :) If the network went down, I could not.

Yeah, if your IT staff is internal.

We're not...

I'm convinced there are people out that literally think email and internet is magic. Like you hit the send button and it just floats through the air or something.

Wait, its not magic?

Just received word today that I am advancing in BOTH of the interview processes that I am in! Each day God blesses me more than I deserve.

Not long ago, I sent my boss an entire presentation on an approach for continuous improvement that i wanted to lead for a problem area. He received it via email and sat on it for 2 weeks.

Then he sent me an email with MY presentation attached and asked me to research the concept, get in touch with the author of the presentation, and then report back to him on my findings.

needless to say, I chuckled.
