The Glitch, Bug, and Feedback Thread

RE: the reply window - you can actually drag it to make it bigger. Not sure if that's your issue with it (that was my issue with it - I hated when the quote was bigger than the window), but that's an easy fix. And the site remembers your preference, so you don't have to do it every time.

Wow - never noticed that - nice catch.

Hey Boone, the load times are very varying lately. Seems like some nights, I can click right through, and other times it takes forever. I'm sure ya'll are working on it, but I figured I'd add my two cents.

Yeah - we have installed a mod that is supposed to speed things up, but it's not turned on currently (it was causing errors on the home page, so we'll troubleshoot that before we turn it back on. We're also looking at some caching systems to speed things up signficantly, as well as reducing query volumes on individual pages. We haven't DONE anything yet that you should expect to speed things up but we are working on it. I think the best you should hope for is getting somewhere near the previous site load times. VBulletin version 4 is known to be slower, so I don't want anyone to have unrealistic expectations, but I do think we can speed it up. Thanks for being patient. I'm not sure why it varies - I'm not a tech guy, I just pretend to be :)

Feedback:
Links don't stand out from regular text unless you mouse over them :\

I have noticed this too - this is just a color scheme choice by Brother Om - which he can likely tweak. Maybe we go with burgundy for links vs gold which I think is what we have it set on now?

Please keep the 'glitch' and other feedback coming folks. We've asked Neophyte to compile a comprehensive list of current issues so that we can continue refining things, and where the issues are beyond our in-house tech knowledge, get hired help to assist us. Hope the sum total of the site experience is still a positive- we expected some issues and we've got them, but we will keep grinding on things until we get them fixed. Please do not 'live with' issues - if the site is not performing to your liking - TELL US. Don't assume we know about it, or can't do anything about it. We've busted our ass to get to this point, and we're not going to stop until this is a finely tuned machine :)

Extreme - would you mind trying to upload a photo now and see if you are able to? You have the highest photo upload total of any member (not a problem - but that's likely the issue). I just upped the Premium member allowable total image allowance - see if that fixes it?

Oh, and what do you recommend most for viewing on an iPhone? I haven't seen a particular app to download....and I've never really understood this whole "skin" concept.

Sorry - I missed the last part of your post the first go round. You have three options with an iPhone. You can view the full site :) That's not really an option as you would have to zoom in continuously. You need a mobile option. There are two available. The first is free, and that's our mobile skin (a 'skin' is just a customized view option). To switch to the mobile skin on your iPhone, just scroll down to the bottom right hand corner of the site, and click the dropdown right above the lower BGO image (it will say 'BGO Fluid' in full site mode. Pick the option to view 'Mobile Style'. That will give you a very streamlined, very usable view without all the graphics.

The other option is to go to the iPhone app store and find 'Tapatalk'. Buy the app, and then search for the BGObsession listing. Tapatalk is a really wonderful app and just cost a few bucks.

Either option is great on the iPhone. Hope that helps, if you need further direction, just let me know.

Nope, still not working. The message I get reads as follows.....

Exceeds your quota by 11.7 KB.
<a rel="nofollow" href="misc.php?do=attachments"
target="_blank">Click here to view your attachments</a>

And the picture is very small. About 2in x 2in

Hmmm... I upped your quota ...I know I keep saying it but have you tried clearing your browser cache? When you say it's a small 2x2 image is it a clickable thumbnail or literally a tiny image that you can't expand?

So Extreme - mikes picture is a thumbnail that opens up to the full picture on clicking - are you sure that's not what you're getting?

At the top of each page, the navigation path is shown, ie "Forum- Redskins Obsession- Sons of Washington- (current thread)".

Is there a way to have similar at the bottom of each page?

I find it convenient to click on the path, which apparently also does a refresh, my back button alone does allow the thread to be marked as "read", indicating that I might have missed a new post in the thread.

Somewhere around the Quick Navigation box would be nice, or even making the bold location in the quick navigation box clickable to return to that location, separate from the fly down menu arrow.

It's no real biggie, just saves me a click or two getting back to SOW main with read threads marked as such.

Ok someone explain to me how threads get published to the front page? Is it something we can do or is it something the mods are doing when they feel appropriate?

I remember the old blog it button, but I cannot figure this one out ;)

They said BGO Overdrive has been retired, but there will be new ways to recognize good posts, some of which is still secret and yet to be revealed. The "Like" button is one way - but that disappeared also. I think because of the server migration.

Tapatalk not loading again today for me. No replies nec.. Just a heads up

Btw the mobile skin is great

Right now, it's a staff function. We have a 'Promote to Article' option under every post. Glad someone noticed we were doing it :) We could give the right to everyone, but it takes a little work to do and I think giving everyone the right would be a mess. I am working on a 'Promotions' field for the post-bit (area under your username in the forums) that would keep track of how many times one of your posts was put on the front page. I love this feature - it's actually a lot easier than the blognostications feature ever was.

Yeah - the Like button function is just turned off until we are on the new server. It'll be back soon.

Awesome!

Can we go back to fifteen posts per page? All this scrolling up and down is crazy.

We increased the post count per page because folks asked for it when we requested pre-upgrade feedback. Personally, I'm ambivalent - you're either clicking on the next page link, or you're scrolling. I'm not sure one is harder than the other, but whatever the consensus is, not opposed to changing it.

Another note about it...

It takes longer to load thirty posts. Fifteen posts load quicker. I'll go with the majority though.

A separate note.

Probably going to get an Android Samsung Galaxy S4 in the coming weeks. My Nokia-working cousin will throw a fit, but Nokias are not too compatible with the rest of the world. Great phones with a lot of storage, but places like this are not functional.

Just an fyi - we have installed a really cool Video Library - you may see some auto-generated threads appearing. We've temporarily turned off the library as we are migrating to a new server as we speak and don't want to interfere with that process. Video links from our library will not work until we've turned the library back on.

Lastly, I love most of the changes to the arcade, but I really dislike the way the games are arranged. To put it lightly, it's a cluster****. I'd much rather see the old list style sorting we used to have. This current setup looks like everything was just jumbled to gether with too much text, too many pics, etc. It's a headache to navigate it, not visually friendly at all.

Hey - my apologies. I did not look at the formatting in the Arcade when you mentioned this - it was 'fine' when I first installed the new Arcade. Obviously something has changed as you are right - it IS a cluster****. We'll get it fixed, sorry about that... I thought you were just commenting on how it was organized, but obviously you were seeing what I just saw, that the formatting is all screwed up.
