I wanted to hold off writing this for a few days until I let the shock of our current situation wear down and the truth be told about what the Redskins' future holds.

Let me first say that I like Robert Griffin III. He is a high quality young man who let his ego get in the way of common sense on Sunday...something most 22 year old competitors would do. Many here talked about how humble this young man was all season long, captivated by that smile and the appropriate remarks at every turn. I admit, the young man wow'ed me too. I was extremely impressed with his ability on the field, more impressed with his leadership and the way he always seemed to put the team first. That wasn't the case over the last month. And what his decision making over the last month has shown me is, he is much less mature than we thought he was...now we are left wondering if he can regain his edge in the NFL. He crumbled under the pressure by trying to prove us he could do it, he placed himself before the team...his ego got him hurt. And now, Redskins' nation is left wondering what the future holds...a situation that concerned me more than most on this site and else where as it became apparent we would land him here in the draft last off-season. The worst case scenario has happened and here we sit without first round picks for 2 more years and our star QB, likely, out for the 2013 season, no telling what he'll be able to do when he returns.

Last year when everyone was emphatic about how badly we needed this young man on this team, I clamored against it. I did not want some athletic QB who had never done much but put up a lot of statistics. When the final draft positions were known, I was relieved we were not in a position to draft him. When I found out we may be trading up for him, I cried out against the idea and when we drafted him I was upset. The cost was extremely high for a QB that plays like he does, especially coming off the knee injury he had in 2009. It was such a big risk. A risk this franchise really didn't have the luxury to make.

What I was not able to see from the film is what many Baylor fans have expressed, it wasn't just his physical attributes, it was his leadership. None of that mattered to me because I watched enough film on him to form my opinion. Granted, 5 games in his final year in college was probably not enough to form a comprehensive opinion, but he ran a lot and took a lot of hard hits from college players. I kept thinking to myself, if he takes those type of hits in the pros, he will not last long.

Well...I was right! I told you so!

His style of play is 100% all the time and it has cost this team at least one season without him. We will find out the extent of things over the coming week or so, but from all indications and if Shanahan doesn't want to be driven out of town with a pitch fork for not letting him heal properly (THIS TIME), he will make him sit out for a year to let this injury heal properly!

After the Ravens game, when we were told the extent of his injury, I suggested we should side line him for the rest of the season. Many said that was ridiculous! It's a win now league, we are on a streak, the injury wasn't that bad... Then when we saw Cousins perform so well against a middle of the road Browns defense, we should have let him start against the hapless Eagles! We should have sat RG3 for that game as well. And if it came down to it, if he wasn't right for the Cowboys' game, we should have sat him then too.

I told you so!

I am not in any position to judge what Shanahan did Sunday Night. I was at the game and the only indication that I saw there was a problem, was the 9 yard run late in the first half. I really didn't know how bad it was until I saw the film later that night. In retrospect, I can say that this was a poor decision on Shanahan's part, for all the reasons already mentioned. Mostly, this lies on Robert Griffin III's shoulders. He placed himself above the team! I cannot say for sure what he was thinking, but he is a competitor so I can imagine he thought he was wearing a cape since all season long we had been calling him superman.

Before we chose RG3 to lead this team, I was against it. By the time the New Orleans game came around, I was excited and when he churned off a 79 yard TD run against the Vikings and I saw what was happening in the stands of that stadium, I was glad to say I was wrong! It did not pain me in the least. Now? Well, I am right back where I started. I would much rather have taken Ryan Tannehill with the #6 pick and watched him grow. I think he would have been a decent QB for Shanahan and we would likely have gone about where most expected...8-8, but we'd have had a second round pick last year, next year's first and the following year's first and that would likely have been 10 spots higher than we sit in the draft order for this draft...first and second rounds.

There were too many holes to fill to take a flyer on such a gamble. As I look at the situation before us, many will call me a Debby Downer or pessimist, I don't really care. RG3 was a bad investment. While the division title was nice, what did we truly gain? It was a fun ride while it lasted...what's next?

What do you want, a ****ing cookie?

The movie just started. Might want to wait until the credits roll before such a public display of auto-fellatio.

On second thought, if you so desperately need the pat on the back, have at it. Petty and insecure as it may be.

What's next ? Rub my eyes, shake my head, reread the post, and say WTF....

"Tom Brady will miss the entire NFL season with a left knee injury that will require surgery, leaving the New England Patriots without one of the game's great quarterbacks and their Super Bowl hopes severely damaged."

Let me know when it's only mobile QB's who have knee injuries and we will all bow to your onmiscience. Did RG3's immaturity contribute to this situation. Assuredly so. He's a kid. He has maturing to do. His coach should have protected him. He'll learn. He's injured not dead. He's a deadly accurate passer and willl still be more mobile than most QB's in the league. I don't see this limiting his or the teams success long term, so long as he learns to slide sooner. You cleary don't think he has the intellect to do so. I disagree.

Yep. Yep. Yep. Isn't Peyton THIS close to winning MVP, partially because he missed AN ENTIRE SEASON the year before, and came back great? Carson Palmer's injury happened in the pocket. Matt Stafford was labeled injury prone for the first three years because he kept getting injured in the pocket. It's a long list of guys who miss substantial time because of injuries, mobile QBs or pocket passers.

Besides, as Steve said, he'll learn. The kid is brilliant and unbelievably hard working. I'm willing to bet he dedicates himself to shredding defenses with his arm, and I'm willing to bet even more that he does it. He is that good. For me, personally, it was never his legs that thrilled me this year. That was exciting and fun, whatever. But his accuracy and his unbelievable PA fakes were manna in the desert for me. He'll learn to slide, he WILL get injured again, life will go on.

(as a side note, what are folks gonna say when luck gets injured behind that atrocity they call on OLine? Or when Wilson gets injured running around? Wilson took far worse hits Sunday than Griff did, imo)

Yeah, you guys can be mad all you want. The reality is I'm right. I am not going to compare him to Michael Vick, so you cannot compare him to Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, he is not any of those QB's. Yeah, he's young, yeah he's got some growing up to do and look at what AP just did. But I have no confidence going forward that he will learn from this.

This city made him out to be almost god-like...a savior. He absorbed that all year and here we are. I didn't write this for a pat on the back, I wrote this because I am disgusted that we just watched the so-called future of this team go down with a very serious injury that was handled the wrong way. Do you guys remember what happened to Lavar Arrington? Part of that was his own fault, but he was never the same after being rushed back onto the field with his knee injury when he was young and dumb and didn't know any better.

No Ss, a division champioship is not worth watching this young man go out like a race horse and kill himself trying to be what this city has made him out to be...Superman. You guys can lap up whatever nonsense Shanahan or Wylie are spewing about this injury, but we all know it is much more serious than they will let on. 6-8 months for a tear of the ACL and the LCL? OK, let's continue to call him Superman! They said it was 1-3 weeks with the LCL strain and we saw how that turned out. Is he going to consult AP and try to bounce back after his injury? Well, I don't know, but I am stuck in the same boat I was last year about this time when you all wanted him here, I am skeptical.

The original post inspires meh for the most part but it's also factually incorrect...we won't lose RG3 for the season. I'll bet ya a new cap that he's there for Training camp.

So El, at our draft position last year, what QB could or should have been ours instead that would have worked out better? I'm curious to hear your solution as along side of your gripe.

I reread and noticed you said Tannyhill.

Really? Are you serious?

You would trade a 102 QBR for a 79? You honestly feel Tannyhill was the best option for this team?

Yup, lets rush him back again on the same ACL that's been torn twice now with an added torn LCL to boot.

No, I am not a doctor and I just witnessed Adrian Peterson do something amazing, but for you to suggest it is factual incorrect is pure conjecture! There is no fact in projection, you can't read the future! Just like I could be wrong about where I believe the next year is going. I am sickened right now that we spent so much on a kid who has torn his knee in the same place and another in less that 4 years.

Again, no! A division Championship was not worth this young man shredding his knee! We should have sidelined him for the rest of the year!

Speaking for myself, I certainly ain't mad at you. I just find people who are so quick to say "I told you so", quite pathetic. Especially when the ending to this story hasn't been written.

LaVar was NOT rushed back. Not sure where that fantasy comes from. Well, maybe LaVar. Who wouldn't know the truth if it crawled up his ass and pitched a tent.

We're all pissed. Most of us just don't try to make it about us.

But go ahead and peacock away. Maybe do a youtube video wearing a SuperIToldYouSo cape. That could be entertaining.

Your silly point had nothing to do with "sitting him the rest of the year" that is something most of us would agree with you on.

No, you ejaculated all over yourself in claiming you were Nostradamus in a desire to never even have him on the team instead.

You cant have it both ways.

You have no idea how he would have performed in Shanahan's system, Kirk Cousins did pretty well. I am not saying Tannehill would have led us to the Division Championship, I am saying the Shanahan's would have developed an offense that could have worked for him. We would still have the very important building blocks that develop a team. And we would probably have been middle of the road this year moving forward at a slower pace.

Who knows? Shanahan expressed how impressed he was with Russell Wilson at last year's Senior Bowl.

What have we now? Instead, we took the flash in the pan and look where that gets us. I am not saying Griffin is done, but I would be very surprised to see him as the Hall of Fame QB that is being thrown out there. One season where he was neck and neck all season long with other rookie QB's for the Rookie of the Year award and we are crowning him a Hall of Fame QB?

Pretty classic case of Monday morning QB'ing, El. Which is ok. Just not particularly compelling. Plus you're making the assumption Robert will miss the 2013 season. No way to really make that case today.

Which pretty much leaves one with the impression you're just venting.

Which, again, is ok. Just not particularly compelling.

Yeah...this post should have been saved until September, when we knew one way or the other.

And as others have mentioned, its not just "running QBs" who get injured. The QB position is a very fragile one. Troy Aikman ran a 17 second 40, and had to retire because of concussions. Joe Thiesmann had his leg snapped like a twig. Manning had his effing NECK broken, and here he is about to win the MVP of the league.

EDIT: And for the one-zillionth time, Robert wasn't injured on any designed runs, it was scrambling from, you guessed it, the pocket.

I hate to say it, El, but I believe you're going to have a nice serving of leather next season when you have to stick that foot in your mouth. :)

Like I said at the beginning of the OP...I expected contention. You're right Om, I am "Monday Morning" QB'ing, but that is what everyone here does all the time...it's what we do, compelling or not.

I don't know if he'll miss the rest of the season, you're correct. Just like you don't know the true extent of his injury. We all know that will never be disclosed, so you can't say he will be back and everyone here seems to jump on the Tony Wylie report of 6-8 months. Well, we were told the same thing a month ago...1-3 weeks. I will say they should just do the same thing they did with all the other injuries last year we saw to Helu, Carriker, Orakpo and others. Shut them down completely. The investment is too big.

As for the original piece, I am frugal. I do not day trade, I have chosen stocks that will pay off in the long run. You guys seem to think this young man, who has a track reocrd for tearing up knees, is going to last long in the NFL. I don't, unless there is a major change in his ability to avoid the hit. He could not prove he could do that. that was the same young QB I saw at Baylor last year, but with college players.

Venting? Yup... Poor title choice? Maybe. Still angry about wasting draft picks to draft him? Absolutely. We could have still rebuilt in other ways?

Lanky, all the QB's you have named have won Super Bowls...he is a rookie who had one dynamic season. And the "pocket" comment. I know how he got hurt. He is very mobile, so he tried to do more than he should have...like throw the ball away, but the way he plays is what got him hurt. He doesn't know how to quit the battle to win the war.

El, we'll revisit this thread next season. My guess is you'll kinda wish you'd had a Twix instead.

It's no suprise El is catching crap for this, but i know where he's coming from. I watched every snap he played his senior year plus a few other games from earlier in his college career.

Without a doubt the number 1 worry i had about Robert was the big shots he was taking in college, i mean big shots! The reason he takes these big shots is because he has very poor body control when he get's up to speed and he's unable to slowdown or cut to avoid the big hit. He's absolutely defenseless at times when he runs.

To Robert's credit, i thought he made a big leap from college to his first year as a pro in avoiding these big hits, but it's something that's always going to be a problem for him. It's no suprise whatsoever to see him hurt.

The next concern about Robert was his ability to throw across the middle of the field. He threw the ball late in college and that's a sin the NFL. Robert's accuracy comes from zipping the ball. He's not a really good touch passer who throws with good anticipation and different ball speeds. He does throw a very good deep ball.

The last concern was the offense he ran at Baylor and throwing against man coverage. Baylor ran a 4 Wr(2 each side) and 1 Rb 90% of the time regardless of down and distance except on GL and short yardage. They played a 2 man game on the either side of the field depending how the defense lined up. They either threw the quick comeback/smash route, short out/slant, post/skinny post, fade and a lot of bubble screens. Robert never had to make more than 2 reads and he never had to make reads coming from 1 side of the field to the other.

Nobody except Oklahoma played man against Baylor because of their Wr's and it wasn't a in your face man like the SEC or NFL. Kendall Wright went in the 1st round last year and they have another Wr this year who will go in the 1st or 2nd round who might end up being the better of the two becaue of his size and speed.

Like El, Robert really suprised me after seeing him play for us and he really impressed me with his character and intelligence. Robert definitely has that "it" factor. I will not go as far El in saying we shouldn't have did what we did to get him, we were desperate for a QB, but i think it's definitely a fair and reasonable arguement. I wouldn't have been screaming from the hilltops either if we would've passed on him and went in a different direction like El suggested.

Also, i'm a little tired of hearing RG3 did everything this year. I know that's how the media works especially with QB's, but the fact is, Alfred Morris and Kyle Shanahan did as much for Robert as he did for them.
