No News, Is Bad News?

That sounds like Doug Conkwright. If not, the similarities are eerily similar. He was a very well respected Dermatologist that eventually got into sports medicine with his sons and their wrestling, then eventually "retired" as a general practice M.D. and was one of the best around for years. It was a sad day when insurance regulations forced him out, he was the best doctor I ever had.

The Conkwrights went to F.W. Cox High School. I grew up in Little Neck Point - that would be First Colonial High School's district.

Sherlock Extreme strikes again...lol

Never a dull moment.

Griffin has surgery scheduled this week to repair a torn LCL (partially?). While repairing the LCL, Dr. Andrews will determine just how much (if any) damage has been done to the ACL. So, Redskins Nation, we need to collectively cross our fingers, pray, send good vibes, dance a jig, whatever it is you do to make good things happen so that his ACL is okay, or only has very little damage.

Got a link to the story ?

EDIT: Never mind, just saw it on ESPN.....

I suggest sacrificing a chicken and offering a cigar and rum to Jobu.

A piece from this site on PCL injuries (for what it's worth) http://www.soccermaniak.com/lcl-rehab.html

Grade III LCL treatment

When a Grade III LCL ligament injury happens, more severe sprain or impact is absorbed by the outside of the knee causing the ligament to completely tear.

When this happens severe pain, bruising and swelling can be expected with inability to walk.

Use of crutches or a knee brace is recommended during the first week after the injury occurs.

Immobilizing the knee should not last more than a week because early range of motion will help in the healing process.

Once able to bend the knee, athletes should start using the stationary bicycle.

Walking with progression to jogging should be started as the pain subsides and allows to do so.

Use of hinged brace after one week is very helpful to keep the knee stable especially during the early stages of LCL rehab.

Early stages of Lateral Collateral Ligament injury treatment should include use of anti-inflammatory medication to help with swelling as well as RICE treatment.

After 4 weeks the knee should start feeling better and it will be time for knee exercises.

Athletes will usually need 3 - 6 months before returning to the sport and should only return when there is no pain in the LCL ligament area.

The WaPo story tonight quoted the athletic doctor at Maryland as saying that an LCL tear could require 8-12 months rehab but an ACL tear in addition to that wouldn't necessarily lengthen the rehab timeframe.

I know, that's where I graduated from. The gym and front foyer were practically a shrine to them. Some of the younger bunch ended up at Great Bridge, but I'm not sure if it was the old man's sons or their sons.

This whole situation just makes me sick to my stomach.

Surreal.

When he returns, there's just no telling if he'll be his explosive self again. Not only from a physiological-recovery condition, but from a psychological-tentative-hesitation approach to the running part of his game. We were just starting to see his potential. I really hope we don't see his career diminished in any way because of the injury. He deserves much better than for this to be his legacy.

Phillips Daniels posted some ideas in a tweet..

"In 2008 I had surgery on my ACL and LCL and in 7 months I was already squatting over 600lbs at age 35. Just a little inspiration. Told later that that they thought I would never play again. What they forgot is that I had a more proven powerful doctor. Came back stronger than ever. No brace, no pain, no worries. My doctor said let's go show the world and I did for 2 more years".

if its torn lcl and acl it will be a minimum of one year recovery with hard rehab, the loss of stability is the killer, and his rehab will be much harder if he tore both, the lcl is the lateral stabiliser, when I tore mine I never recovered completely, my 40 time went from 4.9 to about 5.2 and I had to start wearing a brace, but I also had a tear in the meniscus which is common in catastrophic knee injuries as well as complete tear of the pcl and mcl so his may not be that bad (im praying anyway), the way his twisted i would be surprised if he had no tear in the meniscus or acl.

on the bright side, like Mike said, he is also a solid passer so some speed loss wont be a career ender, its just really maddening. anyway, next season we have all of our own draft picks, so we can build a team to be even stronger, we might not be as good as we like, but we will also have our first rounder so maybe we will be in position to draft clowney and have a stellar defence for when RG3 gets back to lead us to a super bowl.

Ryman, we don't have a first for either of the next two drafts.

And there we have it. 6-8 months.

See you next season Robert.

Good as new.

I sure hope you are right, but I wouldn't bet on it:

Surgeon says return next season 'not the norm'

Robert Griffin III may have to wait a full season to take the field again. That's according to an orthopedic surgeon trained by Dr. James Andrews, the renowned specialist who examined Griffin on Tuesday.

Michael Jablonski, a former team physician for the Orlando Magic, said he tells patients who have injuries similar to Griffin's to expect eight to 12 months to return to play, and more than that to feel as strong and stable as before the injury.

FWIW, it appears that Andrews has RG3 believing 6-8 months too.

Robert Griffin III ‏@RGIII
Thank you for your prayers and support. I love God, my family, my team, the fans, & I love this game. See you guys next season.

Doesn't matter. Griffin was not a major part of our team for half of the win streak to close the season. Maybe the team was playing on adrenaline or whatever, I don't know, but they were playing out of their minds, collectively. No way to know if they can reproduce that without Griff, but we've got some good leaders on the team. Fletch won't let the play fall off too much.

Good news considering...

Cousins now doing the OTAs...we'll probably keep Rex...focus on defense, CBs, Safties and MLB.

The team knows it can win with or without RG3...

We're only going to get better.
Yahtzee!!!

Lol. No offense, Ryman, but the tweet just before yours is the difference between very good athletes and elite athletes. I don't doubt it took you a full year to recover, and the average joe might take even longer. But these are elite athletes, who have nothing to do other than rehab and get ready. I would not be surprised to see Griffin suiting up week 1. However, I might be more comfortable starting him on the PUP list.
