Severe/Extreme/Unusual Weather Thread

pretty sure a tree in my back yard just defied physics.

That was one of the things that fascinated me most during hurricanes in South Florida, the Palm trees were so flexible they would just bend right over, almost cartoonish...

Atlantic City officials are saying that pretty much the entire city is under water at this point

Well, a lot of Northern VA is old so their power lines are all above ground.

I'm far enough out that all our stuff is under ground. If a tree doesn't hit my house I should be fine.

Feel bad for people in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, etc. They seem to lose power every time the clouds roll through.

I'm in Kings Park in Fairfax. Our power lines are above ground and we lose power every time it gets windy at all. For us it's not a matter of if but when.

Is this real? Looks like footage from "The Day After Tomorrow." Yikes!

Heh. My wife just told me there's no channel 1 in New York.

NFL Trading deadline moved to Thursday afternoon due to Sandy/Frankenstorm.

NFL offices closed today and tomorrow. At least one good thing comes out of this storm.

Flooding is really bad here right now. The rain has been coming down very heavy since yesterday, and it hasn't let up yet. Our neighbor's new fence came through our back door last night, so we have a tarp nailed down with boards nailed over it for a door right now. The post from their fence took out our side window this morning. Trash cans are all over the place, cars are flooded out all over the streets, the canal a few hundred feet behind my house (which is also about 10 feet lower than the level of my house on a normal day) is now only a few inches from coming into the house, which has never happened, and things don't appear to be getting better.

All of the major roads have flooded in multiple spots, and are completely closed off, areas I have never seen under water in all my life here are now under water, trees down everywhere.......it's a lot worse than I expected.

On the other hand, haven't lost power or satellite. I'm gonna upload some pictures when I get a chance to.

Did you all know the word "gullible" isn't even IN the dictionary?

 Yeah, expect these types of photos over the next few days. Those wall Lady Liberty sits upon are like 300 ft.

These winds are very intense and it is shocking to see that I still have power. It could go at any minute though. Heard a tranformer blow about a mile from here a short time ago. Heard a tree fall down over by the creek that runs behind the property here. Lots of rain too. Still a long way to go.

Be safe guys....just a little breeze and some drizzle here in NC.

Yeah **** just got going pretty bad here. Power keeps flickering but not out yet.

My basement door was supposed to be replaced on Friday because the people who owned the house before us were dumb and screwed up the install. Then plastic covering it is gone and I have to hit it with a shop vac once an hour to keep the water from building up.

Can't imagine what it's like Iin Maryland

We are fine here in MD for now. The winds are picking up and the power is out in some areas near me.

As I am writing this, we experienced the first flicker... Uh oh!

Wondering if the scant posts in this thread mean a lot of our gang is already without power?

Thousands around me have no power, but I still do. Underground power lines are a great invention.

Winds howling at 50 - 70 now - very wicked outside. That howling noise is spooky. Still have power - astonishing.

Lots of damage in the region here. Downed trees have a bunch of roads closed and trees have damaged cars, homes, and businesses. Flooding is just getting underway and that will be a problem into next week. All roads around Philly are closed - bridges too.

Another 36 hrs. or so to go here. Hunkering down mode.
