Severe/Extreme/Unusual Weather Thread

It's amazing how cold it has gotten behind this storm. I have the heat going, and I'm still cold, it's dropping like a rock. The weather station across the street from me is posting rainfall totals currently at 11.6", with the rain still coming down. If it wasn't for the fact it's been spread out over a 36 hour span, my house would have ankle deep water in it right now. As it stands now, it's just about up to the house, thankfully looking like it will come up just short of making it in.
 
We're fine here in Central Maryland. I am going out early in the morning since I couldn't make it across the Bay Bridge before they closed it today. I am going to try to head to the Susquehanna area tomorrow morning.

Still got it here. Just have people over for football and hurricane partying lol.

Cigars scotch and hurricanes.

Flickered a few times. Just enough that I have to reset the clocks...
 
This wind is NO.JOKE. I am up in the bedroom and it is going crazy out there. Slammed with rain, too. Wind is shaking our house a little. I may have to sleep in the living room, it's so loud up here.
 
still have power, directv, and internet btw, shockingly. Couple shutters blew off (they come off easily though). Leaks in a few of our windows and above our front door. Hope they can be fixed with some caulking.

Leaks above doors can be patched temporarily with caulk, but it won't hold too good. The best bet is to do it right, which would involve removing the top of the door jamb, and shooting it full of this stuff, which is what they do when they install doors now......

Then replace the wood and caulk over that. Better to spend $10 and an hour to do it right than keep re-caulking. Trust me, I went down that road once and it isn't recommended.

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure my bf hears about it. We are new at this.
 
Got a three hour "nap" in. Still have howling winds outside with rain and blah, blah, blah. Still haven't lost power - probably one of very few who can make that claim here in NJ. Not complaining though.
 
Good morning to everyone. The good news is that Frankenstorm is quickly moving from the eastern seaboard and Tuesday will be a day of rapidly improving conditions. The best case scenario is playing out under the circumstances. Quite frankly, I am glad to be wrong about half of the forecast. The area where I live looks like a mini war zone, but it should look like it is back to normal by the end of the day.

I can only speak for myself, but the damage locally is minimal. I will get more reports from friends in the coming days. Power was never lost at my location and that is stunning when you consider how powerful the winds had become for about a twelve hour period of time. I will not apologize for hyping this storm or the predictions that were made in recent days. In reality, the only miss was the duration of this monster and we are more than happy to bid Sandy/Frankenstorm a quick goodbye.

For those who get my storm updates (winter and tropical) – thanks for the kind words and I really appreciate your encouragement and support. The goal is to help you prepare to face the storms in a relative manner and take the necessary precautions. I want to applaud each of you for taking this storm seriously, keeping in touch, and doing your best to prepare. Simply put, I am very impressed.

To those who sent well wishes and encouragement from various parts of the country – thanks so much for your concern and support. In means a lot. In the coming days, I will hear from friends who had special challenges during this storm and I’m hoping for the best. We can be grateful that the duration was shortened by some thirty-six hours – give or take a few hours.

This will be the last update on the system. In two weeks or so, I will have the winter weather forecast for the 2012-2013 season. minimal damage here. one customer without power, going to pick up their server and hook it up at my house so they have email.
 
We are dealing with a lot of downed trees around us, but nothing too dramatic. This storm was mild for us in this area, comparatively. I still cannot get over the fact a hurricane made landfall in an area where the water temps were in the low 70's and upper 60's...
 
Waynesboro is fine, we seem to be in a good pocket. Never lost power or anything, which is great.

One of the churches we were supposed to photograph in WV that I canceled told me I should grow a set because the weather people are always wrong. Looks Greenbrier County still has over 25% of its residents without power, and experienced some impressive snow. I don't feel bad about my decision not to send two teams into that mess.
 
Lost power for about 11 hours. No biggie.

Everybody in the neighborhood that had a Bradford Pear 10yrs or older, no longer have a Bradford Pear that isn't laying in pieces on the ground. Some 20ft+ pine/spruce/cypress blown over and uprooted. Few homes lost a shingle or three. And a couple with some siding blown off. But, all in all, not the bear it could have been.
 
earned my money today... this is the most fun i've had working in a while. figuring out new stuff on the fly and getting it working is so much fun :)

got a customers server moved, up, and the critical stuff working in an hour. routing all their email through our server in winchester. not too shabby considering all we had to deal with.

I wish that had happened to ours. We need a new siding job, guy who did it before was a complete idiot and it looks awful now. I'd love to have the insurance pay to reside our house :(

that reminds me.. probably should walk around and see if there is any damage lol.
 
The storm in June was SO much worse here.

We never lost power. No storm damage. We didn't even have any branches fall from our trees this time (Of course we had our trees thinned out after the big storm this summer.)

Just a lot of rain and our kids have been home for the past two days and are going a little nuts.
