Final 53 Man Roster for 2012

Could we shift the list now, from a list of the released players, to the actual roster of the 53, and update it as necessary, same way the cut list was updated.
Would be cool to see who's actually on the team now, as opposed to who isn't ;)

So, has Shanahan officially come out and said that Rex was #2 ?

Because I clearly remember him stating at the very beginning of camp that Rex and Kirk were going to battle it out for 2nd string, and I havn't seen any official announcement about the outcome of that.
 
I am not sure who is slated #2...that is just a list.
 
Fear, thanks for reminding me that both Rex and Banks made it. Yeesh. Talk about something I was hoping to avoid...
 
Banks making it and going short on the OL with only eight is likely to bite us in the behind when anyone goes down in mid-season, we will be chasing the waiver wire once again.

Unless I missed something we are going with 9 this year as opposed to 8 last year. I still think we should have 10 bodies for the line. Licht is nursing a recovered knee surgery who knows what Jordan Black will provide and 2 of our 3 interior backups are rookies with no NFL experience.

So we're still deciding on 2 more PS spots, because we get 8, right ?

That's funny - how did Bernstine end up on the PS ? Because I don't ever remember seeing him cut ? He has to be cut first, doesn't he ?
 
Compton, Worthington, Arceneaux are the only confirmed PS members. Kirkland went to the Pats PS. Bernstine is on the 53 man roster.

No, that was the prediction. The final roster was in blue at the top of the OP. Again, apologies for the confusion.
 
Two waiver claims according to Tandler for interior OL but blocked by teams further down the standings.

Overall I have been positive about the offseason moves (given the cap limitations) but something is smelly about this situation on the OL and the apparent lack of decision-makers' confidence in the depth here.

Was bringing in no other veterans other than James Lee, who never really competed for a spot, the right move?

I tend to agree with Tandler that after signing Pierre Garcon the team could have saved the money from the Josh Morgan signing and used it for depth on the OL.

Given Morgan's injury history and fact he has never posted more than 700 yards in a season, was he worth $12M?
 
You aren't alone, BD. I wondered about the Morgan signing then and still do now, especially with Moss apparently earning a spot. The only way the Morgon signing makes sense, with all our other needs, was if Shanahan expected Moss to get let go but now that doesn't appear to have ever been the case.

Color me confused.
 
Come on, guys. He signed a 5-year deal, voidable to 2, worth $12M w/ $7.5M in guarantees. The other $4.5M is incentive based, I'm sure.
 
Still could have used that money and tweaked a couple of contracts to bring in a solid center, starting OG or better depth at OT.
 
Bryant McKinnie has been released by the Ravens. At 6'8 360 he's not really a fit here, but thought since we're OL hungry it was worth a mention.

I did some digging and found a report from Pro Football Focus rating the NFL's OLs for the 2011 season-they mentioned McKinnie:

There were times when the Ravens’ line looked a lot worse than this, but thanks to a strong interior (that earned a collective +39.7 grade), they stayed in the Top 10 for a third year running. The obvious problem spots occurred at tackle and whenever Andre Gurode (-15.0) got on the field. It really showed up in the playoffs against some motivated defensive lines.

Best Player: Without a doubt it’s Marshal Yanda (+27.6), who just so happens to be the best right guard in the NFL.

Worst Player: It would be Gurode, but given that he was depth thrust into the lineup because of injury (and he was playing an unfamiliar position), we’ll cut him some slack and instead turn to Bryant McKinnie (-11.6). For such a big guy you feel like he should do more when he gets his hands on defenders.

Nah....I'd probably pass on this behemoth-even if he did fit the system we're using...which he doesn't.

If anything happens to Williams or Polumbus it will be interesting to see if Jordan Black at 280 pounds is really a legitimate option at OT.

This is one of the issues I have with the Redskins ZBS system targeting undersized linemen, etc.

Because few teams run the system the way the Redskins do other OL that are released around the NFL or become available for trade that plug in elsewhere, are automatically vetoed as 'not a fit here'.

The Giants can plug in a Kareem McKenzie over the years or the Pats can sign a Brian Waters and they are good to go with vets who have been released.

For the Redskins, it's like climbing Mount Olympus.
