Rumor: I Have A Little Inside Information--Jeff Demps

That report is false.

They've made him a big offer, but nothing signed as of yet.

Seems other sources are saying he hasn't officially signed yet, but he has agreed to terms with the Pats (which is what the article says)

I have a call in right now. I should know shortly.

I can confirm that if he is signing with them, he hasn't told his own family yet. And they are in constant contact.

Will post shortly.

Since this is a rookie - and in recognition of the fairness that Goodell seeks (HA!) - this shouldn't be allowed to stand. Players could claim to be interested in another sport, then have a change of heart and sign with any team they prefer. It would increase the likelihood of "wink and nod" agreements.

Treat these situations the same as the waiver process and give teams with the worst records from the previous year an oppoartunity to put in a claim. The players would receive the standard UDFA contract and nothing more. Yes, the Redskins would come up short by this measure too, but the playoff teams from the previous season would not have such easy access.

Okay, called back.

The Pats definitely have an offer on the table. He hasn't signed anything. This is more of a message for last bidders to increase their bids if interested. He is still available.

If no one does, then the Pats it is.

This is the thought I've had ever since he skipped the draft, unless his offer will be along the lines of a late-round draft pick/UDFA. If not, then its definitely shady.

I bet a lot of teams are wishing they had used a 7th rounder on him. I would assume that they would hold his rights, like in the NBA. But I'm not sure of that.

Lanky......had he won the gold medal, he wouldn't have gone into the NFL. He wasn't trying to be shady.

This probably cost him a decent signing bonus......but not sure. This is kind of a special situation.

This is not a rant against Demps. We know why he chose this path and to run for a gold medal (for self and country) is a very high calling. My rant is directed more at the league and certain teams.

Well, we must be happy with what we have. If we want Demps, then he is ours. He's still available.....at least for a few more hours, or maybe even until Monday.

According to sources he is now a RB for the Pats.

They are a little premature. Now if no one else raises their bid, he will be.

But there is still time left.

From his agent on twitter:

Jeff Demps has not signed with an NFL team as of yet. Those reports are untrue!

I'm off for a haircut, and then home. Rumors are out about a 5 pm est press conference. Odds are extremely high that it's the Patriots.

It was all over sports radio this evening - Demps to the Pats. The rich get richer, same as it ever was :)

To everyone wondering, yes it's true I'm now a new England patriot. Glad to be apart of the team. It's truly an honor. #Godisgreat

But alas....at least we don't have to play the Patriots until the Super Bowl.
So that gives our Special Teams plenty of time to gameplan for him.

Those were my exact words when I heard it was official.

How was the haircut, McD? :)

The haircut was great. The sushi and sake after, even better.:betterwink2:

Well, that would have been nice. I still haven't seen the details of the contract yet, but in the end, the Patriots thought he was worth that much, and we didn't.

I wish him the best going forward, until he plays us.:)
