I mean, the whole "RGIII cocky" story has legs now. His showing the slightest bit of confidence or speaking the unadulterated truth is going to be construed as cocky by people who make their living off of finding crap to write and comment on.

Nobody writes about how cocky and holier-than-thou some sports writers are...... Mike Florio.

Yeah...its sad, really. I guarantee if he wasn't doing these appearances and just kept his nose to the grindstone, people would be complaining that he wasn't confident ENOUGH. Its just in a Redskins' fan's DNA to complain about their QB, I suppose...either that or we're all Pavlovian Dogs!

He is cocky! Again, there is nothing wrong with showing some character. But I am getting tired of seeing a kid who has never taken a snap in the NFL stand in front of a microphone talking about his stature as the #1 QB. He needs to just do it. Too much talk!

This reminds me of Lebron James at this point. He came into the NBA with all the fanfare and hype. He scores a lot of points and looks flashy for most of the year, but at the end of the day what is he?

And if he were less interested in the media blitz and more interested in the playbook, imagine how far along he would be. 60-70%? You're happy with that? Yeah, you must enjoy mediocrity! I don't! I want Championships! If he has gotten to 60-70% by now, he could have been at ~80% if he had spent more time learning the playbook instead of every media appearance possible. We brought him in to win Championships not stand in front of a microphone telling us he is the #1!

Like I have said in the past, we spent a lot for this kid, I expect a lot from him on the field! I am tired of the mediocrity and I am tired of excuses. It's getting down to the nitty gritty and time for this young man to stop concerning himself with his time in front of the microphone and learn the other 30-40% of the playbook. The New Orleans Saints are first up! Time to start putting up and shut up!

I think we all need to take a step back and just wait. I mean El, comparing him to Lebron James? He hasn't taken a snap yet, as you point out. Maybe he WILL back up all the cockiness/confidence/silliness/hype, maybe he won't! Part of the joy is the experience.

At this point, just 6 weeks after we drafted him, I am thrilled with that progress. Furthermore, I don't think he would be any further along if he were not doing the media thing. You can only focus on one thing for so many hours in the day and still make progress.

Not to mention that at some point you reach the end of what you can learn from the playbook until you have actually taken that knowledge to the field under real time, competitive situations.

Look, the kid is still human, no matter how talented he is. So he is making the media circuit? Big deal. Beats the hell out of what Blackmon is doing with his spare time, don't you think? On top of that, you don't know Griff isn't studying on airplanes and in hotel rooms.

Give the kid a break, El. The veterans on the team don't seem perturbed with his media schedule and they see him in practice. If he were having issues there, we would be hearing about it and there would be some pointed comments like yours from people a whole lot more qualified to make them about his study habits. That has not been the case.

If by comparing his hype to that of Lebron James before he ever took a shot in the NBA is slaughtering him then I digress.

I just think it's time for him to put up and shut up. I have always preferred a player who does his talking on the field. And the reality is, I truly believe Griff will do that here.

I guess I have been so completely soured by the on-field product here in DC, I cannot enjoy the experience as you do. Hype is not something I will grasp with all the reverie that many here and elsewhere do. This kid brings so much hope, but I am not going to buy into it until I see him prove it on the field so the more he talks about what he is or is going to do, the more I wish he would just back away from the media. Once Training Camp gets here he is going to be spending a lot of time in front of those microphones, now is the time to give it a break and take advantage of some down time to give 100% to the position of starting QB in the NFL.

Oh, believe me - I'm with you. I'm so used to crapulence on game day, that this an entirely new kind of optimism for me.

I just think we should all take a deep breath, step back, and wait until he actually gets on the field to let him back up his talk. Also, keep in mind that he's the kind of guy that's trying to please everyone - I don't think he and his agent are arranging all these interviews and appearances, I think they are being requested of him. We have no idea how many he's turning down at this point.

And Neo makes an excellent point - he could be getting arrested for "aggravated DUI." I think I would prefer a lot of cocky interviews to that, wouldn't you?

Even with all that, I doubt either of us expect as much from Griff as he does from himself. At least I hope not.

And no, brother, you aren't qualified to suggest anything in this case. You have the right to suggest it but none of us are qualified. His coaches and teammates are the only ones truly qualified to judge that. Only they know whether he is ahead of schedule or behind. Only the know if he is "getting it" or not. Only they really have an idea of the volume of information he has to take in. The rest of us are just guessing.
