MMA: UFC, Strikeforce, etc.

Rashad will get caught unless he can get lucky and land a hard shot to Jones' chin. Lyoto rocked Jones in the 1st round of their fight and kept him on his heels. Rashad has to keep this from going to the ground, Jones' Jiu Jitsu is insane!

El, that's what makes me think that this fight might be a little boring.

Rashad's best bet is probably staying five feet away, and trying to catch Bones with a punch as he comes in. God knows he doesn't want to go to the ground with him. And even getting too close to him while standing against the cage is dangerous, as Machida learned.

He may just kind of run, hoping to frustrate the kid. I really hope he comes to fight.

Gotta suffer through the under card. Not crazy about this one, but the title bout is only about 2 hours away!

Disappointed that Hominick is getting caught with the over hand right.

Glad to see that Frank Mir will fill in for dumb ass Overeem. Mir deserves it. If Mir can keep from taking a huge shot early, he could win that fight.

Edit: Brandon Schaub has proven in the last couple of fights that he has no chin!

Edit: I wanna see Rory McDonald fight Nick Diaz!

Edit: Jon Jones is so lucky he has so many tools because he does not have KO power in his hands. But that kid is extremely talented!

El, exactly what I feared.

I think Rashad tried to push the pace, but once those elbows started blasting him in the 2nd round it was over. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Rashad's eye socket was fractured. He was definitely affected both physically and mentally by those elbows.

I also think Jones gave him too much respect.

Getting Dos Santos on the ground is no easy task, he is likely as good on the ground if not better than anyone Mir has ever faced. Nog was purported to be the best BJJ HW of all time, Mir snapped his arm. So "if" it gets to the ground, Mir has a chance. The problem, Nog caught Mir with a good shot before Frank snapped his arm, Mir's chin is suspect. If Mir can get inside JDS to grapple and/or wrestle his chances are better than if he tries to stand with JDS. JDS has much more power than I credited him before he spanked Velasquez.

Since it isn't an easy task getting him on the ground, then we know that very few have gotten him to the ground. Therefore, without that actual extended experience of grappling, we don't have a lot of evidence to support how good he is on the ground, perhaps ? Or at the least, he may be a little rusty at it.....much like the same logic that we question the endurance of fighters who have never had to go to late rounds, even though they've been winning, just winning early

Yeah, there is some legitimacy to your point, but what you fail to take into consideration is that Dos Santos is a brown belt in BJJ. Having never been to the ground in UFC, he has not needed it. Mir needs to keep from taking a blow to the chin. If he can get inside Dos Santos' range, something Shane Carwin was unable to do, Mir can win the fight.

It's gonna be a "weighty" card this Saturday - with 5 heavyweight fights.
I hope the canvas can support all that weight for so long.
I always cringe when I watch Stefan Struve fight. He looks so awkward fighting guys who are like 4 times thicker than he is, even though he's taller.

Junior dos Santos vs. United States Frank Mir
Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva
Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman
Shane del Rosario vs. Stipe Miocic
Stefan Struve vs. Lavar Johnson

JDS and Mir tonight. Should be a great one.

I honestly don't know much about the undercard, aside from Big Country.

I've never seen the Bigfoot fighter before, and I realized right away, how he got his name.
Looks EXACTLY like Bigfoot.
Or at least what the Bigfoot Cult Followers have made us believe Bigfoot may look like

Bigfoot has a glass chin. He destroyed an over the hill Fedor but got knocked out easily by Bret Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavy Weight Grand Prix. If Velasquez does not annihilate Silva I will be surprised or Velasquez was over rated when he won the HW title.

Jamie Varner had a great knock out. I am sure UFC did not want to see their Brazilian phenom get ko'd so easily.

The Elkins fight was the best fight of the night so far...I write this between the Miocic win and Big Country's fight.

Frank just can't take a punch anymore to be good enough to be HW champion again. I really wish dumb ass Overeem wouldn't have been caught with too much testosterone in his system, he really is the best HW in the world!

Dang...i got caught up doing something and frogot all about this.:frown2:

Suprised that Cain beat Silva like that. Dos Santos is just on another level with his hands. I don't know if Overeem could do anything against him or not. It would be intresting with his leg strikes, but as soon as they got into a hand exchange i believe Overeem would be in trouble.

Cromier seems like the most likely match-up or a Cain rematch.

Big fan of Cromier. But he needs another fight or two to really earn his shot.

As for tonight? No upsets, really nothing surprising. Many of the fights ended quickly though.
