Free Agency:

The 49ers are not expected to re-sign free agent OG Chilo Rachal for 2012.
After a standout 2010 season, Rachal lost his starting job early under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh and watched Adam Snyder play right guard the rest of the way. Still only 26 and the former 39th pick in the draft, Rachal may draw interest from the linemen-needy Redskins. Rachal should come cheap, and Washington OL coach Chris Foerster was Rachal's position coach in 2009-2010.

Kyle Orton is a Cowboy. He's a nice backup if you ask me.

Some of these guys with health issues play on turf all the time (Bell in KC). I have to think that's contributing and moving here to play and practice on grass will make a big difference. I'll never understand the whole turf in outdoor stadiums thing, that stuff is NASTY!

This was true 10 years ago, but these new surfaces are great. I have played on them and they have as much if not more give that natural surfaces, depending on the quality of the natural surface. The best part of the new system is the use of rubber in the base, that stuff makes it feel like you are running on a cushion but still give you the feel of a natural surface.

Oh man ... this would be great. Esp if we could get him for a reasonable price.

Side note: so glad Montgomery agreed to restructure. Any add'l cap space helps.

Other players are willing to step forward and do favorable restructures.
Glad to hear about the team spirit exhibited by players to help with this.

I do recognize Bulldog's concern, though, that if we continue to do this, we may be just kicking the can down the road by allowing salaries to accumulate little by little over time as we keep defering costs in order to sign players now. What I'm hoping is that this is only needed in order to deal with the immediate cap penalty and won't become a common practice as it was under Snyderatto.

ive given up on us signing Winston, it makes too much sense
Dude wants to be the highest paid at his position. I don't think that's the direction we want to go for a number of reasons, not the least of which is we don't have the cap room for it.

And yes, Richal is a possible target.

Is he much of an upgrade over what the Skins already have? I haven't read much good about him. Will this be another cheap signing to increase competition and hope for the best? Is it even worth bringing him in or would a draft addition from the 3rd or 4th round effectively increase the competition with the draftee being younger, cheaper, and having greater upside?

He isn't currently under contract, El, so he isn't "ours" right now anyway.

Yeah, I should have said different RB since the assumption is he will return.

Reports on Twitter that Titans have a 4 p.m. press conference...Manning may have decided?

***EDIT*** - looks like that may be a red herring...we'll see. I still can't get past the feeling that Manning will end up in Denver. It's a great fit imho.

He worked out for the Titans today in Knoxville. I don't believe that he is signing there today or making any commitment to that effect today.

We should offer our 2015 1st round pick for Tebow if Manning signs! We need a young TE...

On a serious note, this from Schefter...

Eagles and free-agent G @evanmathis69 reached agreement on a 5-year deal, $25 million deal, including $7 mil gtd. Mathis back in Philly.

less money than the Redskins gave to Jammal Brown and about what Chris Chester got.

better player IMO.

Many would beg to differ :)
Ahhh..just givin Al a hard time.

I can see it now in camp....

Rex: When things look dim and you are searching for that play that pulls the team away from the brink...there's only one thing left to do.....

RGIII: And what's that Rex?

Rex: Take that seven step drop and throw it deep.

RGIII: What about the coverage Rex?

Rex: Dammit Rook!! Listen to me!!! Damn the coverage!! Throw it deep, kid!!!

Yup, I already made a near identical statement in the sticky thread for our FA signings. So either you copied me, or we think too much alike, or Rex is just too predictable :)
