The Peyton Manning discussion

I do not think I like you meisermitch!

Some interesting tidbits from Michael Lombardi (via @evansilva):

NFLN's Mike Lombardi on P. Manning: "He can't throw. I've talked to ppl who've caught the ball for him. He can't throw the ball to his left"

More Lombardi: "He can't throw...across his body bc he doesn't feel it. Ppl that catch the ball for him say he doesn't really have velocity"

yea....heard that on NFL radio today.

it struck me suddenly: do you think Shanahan is going to screw up this QB situation? I have no grounds, just an intuition, but something is making me think he will.

We're just preconditioned to feel this way, after years and years of Redskins' coaches/Snyder screwing up the QB situation. I think we will get it right this year - although I will say if we have Kyle Orton as our starter without Luck, RG3 or some other rookie QB as a backup, I will flip my lid.

Don't be surprised if Peyton is able to come back at 100% or very close to it. He has been in contact with Chris Weinke who had the exact same surgery and needed nerve regeneration. Weinke went on to win the Heisman after that surgery and rehab.

The key to Manning's rehab was being able to have a successful neck surgery and that has been accomplished. He is just getting started on the nerve regeneration and it should be successful as well. More than 75% of players who have been through this procedure and regeneration have had success.

Bottom line - Manning got through the first major hurdle and is on his way to a comeback.

Reports of Manning's successful rehab aside, the dude is nearly 36 years old. 36!!

I really don't see him as the answer to the problems the Skins have at QB. He is a better solution for a team that is only a QB away from going over the top (see: 49ers).

Wow! Do you think that we have been burned so many times with high priced Free Agents that we have become somewhat bitter? I think there are about four places that Peyton would rather than DC but IF Peyton, Shanahan and Jr would sit down and really want to make this work I am optomistic that Peyton in DC could work. However, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry christmas. I think that was Sheldon for the Big Bang Theory that said that.

First and foremost, Gregg Rosenthal is a big time Giants homer and does little to hide it. He knows very little about football other than the Giants. He has no clue about the relationship that the Post has with the Redskins. Their writers will bash the team at every opportunity.

He claims that Mike Shanahan is not a good QB coach in that post. Seriously? Maybe this kid (Rosenthal is all of 20 or 21 by now) doesn't know about Steve Young. It's possible that Rosey doesn't know of Shanahan's association and development of John Elway's early days when he was an assistant in Denver. Maybe Gregg doesn't know about some of Steve Buerlein's best seasons - they occurred when Shanahan was the head coach.

Shanahan went on to make Brian Griese a pro bowler. Ditto for Jake Plummer. Maybe Rosey has heard of Jay Cutler - maybe.

Mike Shanahan has been coaching QBs for more than thirty-five years and it is to be expected that he would have a miss or two along the way. It happens. Joe Gibbs drafted Jason Campbell in the first round. By Rosey's standards, Joe Gibbs is nothing but a loser. Just saying.

Yes -according to Rosey, Snyder still runs the team and makes the draft choices, free agent choices, the playbook, etc., etc., etc. Please. Dan Snyder ceased to be a part of the football operations on Dec. 17, 2009 and it will remain that way.

Rosey is concerned about the Redskins getting a very good QB this offseason. He knows the Redskins will be much, much better with a great QB. Can someone remind me about the Redskins-Giants games this past season? How did they turn out? Is Rosey bitter much? He has trashed the Cowboys and Eagles many times in the same manner. With the Giants, it is always "kiss, kiss" and his lips are sealed to each and every coach and players butts for the Giants.

Florio won't put up with it in the long term. Florio is a Vikings homer, but he knows how to cover the teams and keep his emotions out of it. Rosey is a kid who is looking to be the ball boy for the Giants. Just ignore his garbage.

Don Banks' piece ought to end all speculation. What a dose of harsh reality, he can't even throw more than 30 yards anymore...Sad, really but no team in their right mind should go for Manning. Oops, Dan Snyder runs our team....

B.

I suspect that the petition not to go that route would have a helluva lot more signatures on it.

I love today's writing. Within conjecture they are suggesting that it might not be conjecture.

If Peyton Manning is showing real improvement in his arm strength, as a result of the nerve regeneration, then it becomes a matter of how quickly he's getting better. And at that point, his return is no longer an "if" -- it's a "when."

The first word in this quote is "if". Essentially they say. "If...then not if, but when."

In a perfect world, The Dolphins would sign Peyton, the Browns would sign Flynn.

Then the Rams draft a franchise Left Tackle, Vikings draft a WR, Brown draft Alabama's running back, Tampa drafts defense and RG3 falls to the Redskins.

Its a shame there is no perfect world.

Peyton is going to be 100% in a few weeks. Video from yesterday...
