That is the issue that encourages me the most. We lacked a foundation on both sides of the ball and had a roster depleted of both starting talent as well as depth in all areas of the team. Shanahan inherited this mess and had (and still has) his work cut out for him. I strongly believe there is no way only one or two offseasons is enough to reverse years of destruction at the hands of Vinny/Snyder.We have no foundation on the offensive side.
Now, if you want to talk about the defensive side of the ball and the DL/OLBs than I'd say absolutely, there's a foundation.
This past draft is the best I've felt about an offseason in years and it's just a shame we didn't have twice the amount of draft picks so we could've started to address the offense as well. While Shanahan has whiffed on some of the FA offensive solutions he's banked on, I'd like to give him some time (ie, another season or two) of drafts and FA to do on the OL and QB what he did last season with portions of the D.
