Would The Redskins Be That Much Worse Off With..................

I have no problem with the Redskins drafting Orakpo #1.

The problem comes in that if that is what you do in April then the time after that pick (and perhaps before it) is used to fill the truly glaring needs on your roster.

Of course part of that is perception and part of it is cap politics.

The Redskins couldn't make that many moves in FA on the OL because Randy Thomas was costing $9M under the cap and Jansen though cut was costing a fortune as well.

What a waste of resources!

Then you throw into the mix the fact the Redskins seem to stock up at some positions such as CB and S and let OL, OLB, RB, QB go wanting for prospects.

At cornerback the team signed Hall to a $50M deal, drafted Tryon #4 last year and followed that up by drafting Barnes #3 this year. That's in addition to paying veterans Rogers and Smoot who were already on the club.

Meanwhile, Chad Rinehart is the only OL drafted in either year

At safety the team drafts Taylor #1 in 2004 (RIP), Landry #1 in 2007, signs Archuleta to a $40M contract in FA and then drafts Doughty, Horton and Moore late.

Meanwhile at OT nothing has happened in years. Samuels has been the LT without a backup since he was drafted in 2000. At RT Heyer has been waiting for Jansen to either disintegrate or get cut for the past 2 years. And the team's only solution to provide competition is to sign Mike Williams, who was last seen exiting the NFL in 2005 as a busted former #1 draft pick.

Somebody please explain to me how Williams 'earned' a roster spot?

He didn't participate in most of camp or the preseason. He hadn't played a down in almost 3 years in the NFL. At 350 he was still slow off the ball and had absolutely no endurance.

In that last preseason game despite what Vinny said I watched him get pushed back into the quarterback's face by Jacksonville's second tier defensive lineman on that side a couple of times.

As a former #1 pick and veteran NFLer, he should have dominated that matchup.

So much for Vinny and his personnel selections.

He has the perfect coach in Zorn, because he is clueless.

Can you imagine Gibbs here and looking at Williams practice with the team?

No matter how old Gibbs got there is NO way Williams would have made this roster with Joe on the sidelines.
