Why isn't Ricky Sanders in the Ring of Fame?

You certainly can make an argument for him. He had those monster seasons in 1988 and 1989 (1000 yds plus, 12 TDs in the 88 season alone), and then had 5 or 6 other seasons of 600+ yds receiving. Tough being on the same roster as Gary Clark (early on) and Art Monk, oh and add Donnie Warren in there. But he was a helluva receiver for sure.

That is a strange omission. You'd think each member of the Posse would have a place. Ricky Sanders was the third of that trio, but he was still a major part of our best teams. Heck, a lot of people talk about Timmy Smith when we think about the '87 Superbowl, but Ricky Sanders had one of the best Superbowls of all time, too.

I agree. He had a relatively short burst, but it cemented him as one of our true big-game heroes. He deserves it.

This is a big surprise to me. He was an integral part of 2 Super Bowls teams. I just assumed he was already in it.

l think a lot will change when the new stadium get's built. They will probably correct a lot of things, this being one. But wouldn't hurt to put this on their radar sooner rather than later. They seem to be pretty responsive to fan sentiment in most ways.

He was the deep threat of the group and assisted in opening things up for Monk and Clark. If we only had one of those two with him, he would be in the ring for sure. It's a shame we didn't have him in his first two pro years when he was in the USFL with Jim Kelly as his QB. I guess we would have never got him if he came straight from college to the NFL though.

I agree, I don't pay much attention to the ring of fame but if you had asked me if he was in it I'd have said we'll yeah duh.

If orakpo is a legacy of the week then Ricky sanders should certainly be in the ring of fame.

Anyone catching a pass from the President deserves the ring.

Is that a bang sighting?

Is that the one and only bang?

If so great to see ya, this place feels more and more like home everyday.

Sanders was definitely a great part of The Posse and deserves to be in the Washington ring of fame.

I still remember watching the video of the team's visit to the White House after SB XXII.
President Reagan picked up a football, said "Where's Ricky Sanders?", then threw him a short pass.
That alone should get him in.

There are two reasons that should HANDS DOWN put him in the Ring of Fame...

1) His Super Bowl performance against Denver.
2) The fact that he was part of The Posse.

Sanders is my favorite childhood player. For some reason, I was drawn to the lesser-known, deep threat instead of our future HOFer and our fiery star. Luckily, that was rewarded in San Diego when he Doug Williams connected several times to bury the Broncos. Then, he went on to be our most explosive WR the following year.

I’ve seen a video of him catch the pass and doing a dance, but the official Super Bowl video doesn’t have it. Just the pass and then the cut to the parade and fight song, which still gives me chills watching that parade and hearing the song.
