Who are Washington's Blue Chip Players?

I don’t think this is that controversial. I have McLaurin as a 4.5 star guy. So, rounded up blue chipper. He’s not a pure 5 because he has disappearing moments. But he’s not a 4 because of his consistency and impact.

Honestly, it's fair to call him a 4 star guy. His yardage total in a single game is 141. The elite guys and even the Nacuas of the world have had games approaching or over 200 - that is truly taking over a game.

If Nacua / Godwin / Evans had played more games this year and CeeDee hadn't gotten hurt, there's a chance Terry wouldn't be going to the Pro Bowl (at least in the initial set of picks).

If he is limited like that I wouldn't mind if he was made inactive against Dallas.

I think it is very important to try to play the Rams or Bucs instead of the Eagles. Given you don't have Noah Brown or Dyami Brown, I think he has to play, at least until the game is out of reach for the Cowboys.

If we are up 20+ in the second half, maybe you sit him then. It'd also be nice to get him north of 1100 yards

Ya, I don’t disagree. Terry has a place in my heart because of what he’s been through and his attitude through it.

If I were a fan of another team I’d say he’s a 4-star or maybe even a 3-star.

I can see it both ways. I think Terry is sometimes a victim of "the grass is always greener on the other side." Sometimes, I think we take him for granted or think he's not as amazing because we've seen him so much. The question to be asked is how well do other blue chip receivers do in comparison when they're the only real threat on the team. I've always heard it is relatively easy to neutralize one player by scheme and I don't think anyone is afraid of Ertz, Brown, Brown, or Z.

On the other hand, we have seen plenty of games through the year where Terry has been invisible and you figure a top wide receiver will always find a way to break free at least a few times a game.

On the other, other hand, the Eagles' Brown was really unhappy about becoming an afterthought and not getting the ball in Philly and I don't think any of us would argue that he's not a blue chipper.

Daniels and Mclaurin are the only 2 locks imo. Maybe Tress Way too.

There's a bunch of maybes and potentially really good guys, but I don't know if I'd mark them as "blue chip"

Luvu, Cosmi, Chinn, Lattimore, Biad could be but I'm not ready to give them that status. All have some shortcoming.

Wagner and Ertz are just too old for it. Maybe they're still around next year but they're cars with broken gas dials; you know you're gonna run out of gas eventually it's just a matter of when.

Maybe Coleman, Newton, Quan, or Sanristil elevate further but none of there yet.
No RBs on the maybe blue chip watchlist.
Payne and Allen should be, they've been disappointing. Fowler...maybe. He's certainly been very disruptive, he probably deserves to be in the maybe category. I didn't realize he was only 30, it feels like he's been around a looooong time.
Guys like Dorance and Ferrell feels like building blocks but not blue chips.

Also why is Sennott not getting more play time. Please don't tell me he sucks. I don't want him to suck. He was a draft crush of mine for TE (2nd only to Theo Johnson, who is now dead to me).

I love Terry but I also see him as a 4 star guy. He's generally very consistent and will make some big plays but Sunday wasn't the first time we've seen him completely shut down by a good corner. True blue chip WRs may be slowed down by a good corner, but they'll still have a few big plays. Terry can be fully taken out of a game by one.

Look at the season Lamb had being surrounded by scrubs. His numbers went up the last two weeks before getting hurt.

I don’t think we’ll ever see Terry have a 1400+ yard season the truly elite guys have.

I'll fight for Terry in the Blue Chip category. Even the best players are gonna have down weeks sometimes, and that's all the more likely when you're the clear #1 receiving threat by a country mile.

I think to have significant success as a WR, you need your own talent, a good QB, a scheme/play design that helps get you open/down the field, and players who can distract some other secondary players.

Terry lacked basically everything but his own talent before this year. Maybe some other OCs schemed up plays for him but it's hard to tell since he didn't have a QB who could execute. This year he got a QB, and Kliff has I think figured some good schemes out for him (especially since he started moving him around a bit more). For a bit there he also had seemingly some "okay" help from other WRs, Dyami could take the top off a defense and pull a free safety, and Noah was playing juuuuuust well enough to distract people sometimes. Ekeler helped too.

With Dyami/Noah/Ekeler out, and the running game struggling to get going in a major way, it's no surprise he's not having as good of games. Defenses know he's the only real downfield WR threat. Even Ja'marr Chase was meh the first two weeks until Higgins came back.

I’ve always said with Terry, the surrounding factors make it trickier to judge. Yes, there’s the supporting cast (and that includes ownership/coaches/qb, etc.), but also how do you weigh leadership, how good of a teammate he is, and maybe most importantly, availability?

Seems to me you kind of start getting into the Art Monk for the HOF type of debate…

Terry is by far my favorite player but pushing 30 I don’t see him as a blue chipper either. To me that’s top 5 at your position and he’s not even top 10 at this point. It’s Jayden and maybe Luvu but that’s it.
I hope they go get a true blue chip WR in the off-season and Terry would be a very high end #2. We should get Jayden elite weapons while we can afford to.

I think a lot of the "Is Terry blue chip or not?" debate really hinges on how you define blue chip. Is it top 5 at his position? If so, then no, Terry is not blue chip. If it's "a guy who other teams usually plan for" then he probably is. I know every WR has "down games", but as I mentioned previously, Sunday wasn't the first time we've seen Terry shut down by a good corner. That doesn't really happen with the true elite WRs. A really good CB will slow them down a bit, but it won't completely shut them down.

Yeah this is a fun thread because the definition of a blue chipper is all over the map. One poster believes there are only a handful in the entire league and I totally disagree with that. To me a blue chip player is an impact player and potential Pro Bowler. I've said for years that Terry is not in the same class as Jefferson, but he's still an impact player and to me that is a blue chipper. Luvu did disappear on Sunday but he has been the most impactful player on the entire defense so I consider that a blue chip player. Cosmi? I don't see how anyone can have him in the conversation after the season he has had.

He has...if I'm remembering correctly he came out of college at 20, so he's an "old" 30.

Yeah, the definition is an issue. If we’re talking top 5 receivers right now, in terms of production, you’d have to exclude AJ Brown, Nabors, Puka, Garret Wilson, Olave, etc. You’d have to exclude Mahomes on the qb list. Doesn’t make sense to me - production numbers are generally too volatile. Happy to be corrected by those on the other side of the argument.

A couple points that are being forgotten when evaluating all players, but specifically Terry:

1. Terry doesn’t fall into the typical WR1 mold. He doesn’t have the elite separation and speed of Jefferson or Chase. Terry’s strength has always been contested catches, and a player like him always has a good chance of winning that 1 on 1, blanketed or not. It’s fair to be critical of Terry being quiet against the falcons, but JD also missed him on a deep shot that could’ve been a TD. That’s happened fairly often this season.

2. Due to Kingsbury’s scheme we will never see the ball forced to Terry as often as you would see to Chase or JJ. I believe they still have JD on a fairly short leash in an effort to avoid the risk of turnovers. Forcing the ball to a contested catch guy is a risk. They’ve proven they can scheme open JAGs on any given play so to target Terry 10+ times a game isn’t a need. I expect the QB/WR relationship to continue to flourish, if anything there’s untapped potential.
