Skins will only keep three pure Tackles. For Compton to stay (IMO); he has to really step his game up and Moses has to start. Trent (obviously), Moses (whether he starts or not) are two. If Moses doesn't start, that's pretty clear that Tyler is the RT. If Moses does start, well, how much has Tom improved? I don't think enough to stay (but not saying it isn't possible) and bump Tyler. This FO looks willing to throw some dice - start Moses & keep Tom, a bit risky but maybe they're OK with that?

McGlynn more of an emergency guy @ Tackle - he's still one of your two C's, starting or backup, irregardless of whether or not he plays @ Guard and they'll still want at least a guy to develop @ Tackle. If someone needed to fill in for Trent...maybe Moses looks best suited for that out of those other three.

i think and voted Moss ..i really hate to see him cut but how much does he have left in the tank...1 or maybe 2 more seasons ? IDK that answer but i have always liked him..
 
Think the reaction to Santana being cut would be big, but don't think that reaction would necessarily be one of surprise in regards to his on-field contribution. It would more likely be based on what a part of the furniture he is, and it will be strange heading into a season without him.

If you're asking whether I would be surprised that it was decided one or 2 of the guys they've brought in could deliver more on the field this season and, more importantly, beyond? Sad to say, no I wouldn't.

Would I be surprised if a 7th round kicker came in, leading to the cut of someone who's been solid on fg's, still improving, needs a bit of work on ko's? Yes, that would surprise me.
 
I would hate to see Santana go the most. At the same time I would not be surprised. There seems to be some strong competition at the WR position. You figure Garcon, Jackson, and Roberts are locked in. This leaves Moss, Hankerson, Robinson, Grant, and Coffman fighting for probably 3 spots. My guess is one of the rookies will make the team. Playing special teams will be a big factor for final 3 spots.

I am worried Moss gets caught up in a numbers game.
 
I think barring injury, it's safe to say Ryan Grant is going to make it. Flashy, Mix-like preseason performances are one thing, but when the coaches start raving about a guy's route running from day one, I'm guessing he's pretty close to a lock.

Santana...production is dropping.

flow this off-season has been to replace entire receiving corps save for Pierre. Hank may get another chance since he has size the other receivers don't have. so...he'll likely get a look. but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go as well.

The difference is 2-3 years ago Moss was contributing, now we are just carrying him on the roster and counting on others to make plays.

If Grant catches the ball as well as advertised and runs good routes in the preseason while on ST as well, Moss won't be on the final roster.

IMO he should have walked away on his own like London did at the end of last season.

It's not fun seeing a guy out there doing half of what he did in his prime.
 
Im sorry, but you saying "just carrying him" is flat out not true. He was the #3 receiver in yards last year and Reed was put out by a faulty head.

He may be getting old but he is not being "just carried" simply because you think we have some new found gold that hasn't ever even stepped foot on the field for us.
 
He was a body, he was out there and he made some catches on a 3-13 football team.

Turn the page to 2014 and we have a different set of receivers coming in.

We didn't have a #2 last year.

We have a legit top #3 now with younger players like Grant and Hoffman coming in as additional depth.

Guys that were evaluated and selected with Gruden on board.

So, the number of moves at WR tells me Gruden wasn't in love with what he saw of the group in 2013.
 
hes been "just a body" for several years now. and for several years now he has done what it takes to contribute and help this team.

you just want to cut him because you see a shiny new toy. one of them is a rookie who has never played in the NFL and the other is pissed because he is now fighting for the #3 spot.

Ill be more than happy to keep the dependable WR who is a true redskin thru and thru and let the shiny boys sit and prove their salt.
 
That's the point - he isn't dependable anymore. No ones saying the only reason you want to keep Moss is due to being a fan and 'sentimental' so let's not attribute assessments of younger WRs as being in love with 'shiny new toys'. All receivers are rookies at some point and some are lucky enough to become aging vets. There will come a day when the young guy surpasses the vet, we just disagree on whether that time is now.
 
Well it seems clear you are personally invested in Moss and may not be looking at the landscape at WR objectively.

Who is to say that a year or two from now you won't feel the same way toward Ryan Grant?
 
and it may look like you are thinking that NE is the god mold for how all teams should be.

who is to say that Ryan Grant even makes it to the field as a rookie? He may be slow in learning the playbook, he may not even make the team...he may even get hurt.

We have 2 threads going about the same thing now...lets use the other one to continue this if you want to keep going.

yea....you caught the dualism.

so...

- not surprised based on production

- surprised based on fact that he has been a staple of the locker room, a leader, and team star in many standout games. the idea really being captured here is less surprise and more "shock" in the sense of a loss
 
I think it's possible to be shocked but not surprised.
Similar to a situation if you have a family member in the hospital who is gradually dying. By the time they pass away, you're not surprised, because you could see it coming. But the shock is there, because you just lost somebody close, and your life is forever changed.

Moss,at his age and his production falling,would not be a surprise cut to me.

My prediction: Kai Forbath

I think the staff will value Hockers kickoff length and his potential upside over Forbath.


And I'm a Cobra Kai fan....so I'd be bummed about it too....

To be clearer, trying to say that I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at Grant and the UDFA WR's and said 'They can give us more than Moss this season'... hence why I wouldn't be 'shocked' if he was cut. Saddened? A little, but only in terms of all he's given.
