Washington Commanders rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams has turned heads during training camp. Even with the addition of Stefon Diggs, Williams is still vying for a starting role with the rest of the Commanders' receivers, save for Diggs and Terry McLaurin, who have their starting roles locked down.

A third-round draft pick this year, Williams signed his rookie contract earlier this summer, and while he may not have received a massive payday like first-round picks, he's still making quite a bit more money than he did with his Name, Image, & Likeness (NIL) deal with Nike while at Clemson. So what was the first big purchase he made with his new paycheck? ESPN's NFL Nation compiled a list of several rookies' first purchases, and Williams was included.

The third-round pick from Clemson made one big purchase. "My first big purchase was a home about 10 minutes away from the [Commanders'] facility. I'm not a big spender. I feel that was a good investment. No cars, nothing crazy, man. I didn't want to make any dumb decisions."

Today's NFL players have the benefit of not only seeing how other athletes have managed their money, both good and bad, and learning from those athletes. They also have the benefit of earning extra money in college with NIL deals, so they get some exposure to managing larger sums of money before they get bigger paydays as professional athletes.

Many players' first purchase is a house, and it's definitely a solid investment, especially when you can live close to where you work. Williams is playing the frugal card and not going crazy spending all of his money, which is a smart plan.
