what is the risk? If he's not gonna play QB here anymore, there is zero risk. He's not going to come out and retire due to constant migraines... the guy wants to play football. Bottom line is as soon as he's cleared we need to cut him. Plain and simple. He's already passed the physical tests, we just need the computer data to come back that he's good to go, and we're clear of that $16m hit.
The injury clause states he's only guaranteed if he cannot pass a physical March 1. I'm pretty sure he's not even at a point of failing a physical NOW since the requirements for physicals are so spotty it's not funny. Didn't someone this past offseason just fail a physical for one team, but pass one with another the next day?
Here's what we are now asking him to do.
Come in, be honest, and sign the papers saying that you are okay. Then Rob, you have two choices:
1. Ride the bench here for at least a bit, or we may just cut you. If we do cut you, no team is going to pay you $16 million next year. Yes, we are asking you to play nice and take a huge paycut.
2. Get rich. Take the next two years off. Don't risk your health.
It's not worth the risk we just took by refusing to wait four days.
Call it what you want. Bad decision-making. Poor risk management. Both apply.
You are basing your entire risk management criteria on the chance the player will fake an injury.
Take two years off and make $20 million. Or play this year and all of next somewhere, risk your health, and make $8 million?
It was a poor decision. We could have lessened that risk, and possible severe damage to our 2016 season by waiting four days.
