What should they do with RG3

I don't understand the risk of picking up the option at this time. It's only a risk if he's on the roster at the beginning of the season right? e.g. the injury clause?

So the team knows who the QB is in the next four days? That's the upside?

Now compare that against the risks.

Not of he didn't evaluate it as a risk while he was doing it. If he's dealing with alcoholism, then you have to take that into account. Most alcoholics, or at least people labeled as alcoholics, don't view it as a risky situation, so his 'management' of that situation is null and void. If he doesn't see it as a risk, you can't judge him on his management of that situation.

That's easy enough. It's the first nail in the coffin of the RG Saga. From here on out, every single attempt at an RG questions get's met with, "Kirks our QB, we're focusing on getting him ready. Next" There is zero downside. RG is not going to fake concussion symptoms. His ego is battered. He'll want to move to another team to prove to the world he isn't the biggest sports bust in history. The team has moved on.

OR they've moved on from Griffin and it's time the TEAM understands that there is zero question about who is starting for this football team. He's got a football team to worry about, and he needs 53 guys to be on the same page he is. Griffin's option was picked up and things have changed over the last few months. He's also watched how all this nonsense within our market gets skewed, and they NEED to be behind Kirk if he's going to the QB going forward.

I agree with that 100%. So why not wait four more days to let Rob pass his physical? What's four days?

Currently he is owed the remainder of his signing bonus ($3.5M) and his guaranteed salary ($3.3M). So if cut, it is a cap hit of both - $6.8M. If traded he still hits the cap with his signing bonus ($3.5M) as dead money but the new team absorbs the guaranteed portion of his salary ($3.3M) and that is a cap savings this year.

If cut or traded the Skins don't have to pay the $16M option and none of that counts against next years cap.
 
The potential downside, although not likely, is enormous.

Forget the insignificant fact that we just damaged any trade value he had left. That's minimal.

What about the small chance that Rob has dinner with his family. Rob's father thinks he's been treated unfairly. Rob's agent agrees. Rob's ego is bruised, and he no longer wants to play for this team. He's embarrassed and pissed. His wife fears for her husband's health.

Well we know what Haynesworth would do. But a pissed off Rob is still a good guy, right?

If Rob is pissed after talking to his father, wife and agent, he can now claim he has permanent migraines and can no longer play--or even temporarily retire.

No Doctor can prove otherwise.

He collects $3.4 million this year, and next year? Here's another $16 million for you Rob......go ahead and take that right off our cap. 2016 wasn't that important anyway.

You're now rich for life, and you can practice for the next two years and make a comeback with another team.

Terrible risk management. No matter how small the chance......just so stupid.

The injury clause states he's only guaranteed if he cannot pass a physical March 1. I'm pretty sure he's not even at a point of failing a physical NOW since the requirements for physicals are so spotty it's not funny. Didn't someone this past offseason just fail a physical for one team, but pass one with another the next day?

Out of curiosity...why doesn't the same standard apply to Gruden?

- he's high risk

- he was given an even bigger guaranteed contract

- his performance to date has left a lot to be desired

- there are very likely better coaches on his staff!


you're right! there is an emerging pattern of poor risk management!

Griffin needs to be a professional and get away from the DC circus. he'll get a chance somewhere and it'll be on him to make something happen.

I don't disagree.. But if the organization is ready to move on... we need to move on. If that decision became official yesterday, then from that moment on, as far as anyone is concerned, Kirk is the starter regardless of the other outside things going on.... period. The decision is made, then it's made, and we go forward with that mentality, internally, as well as publicly.
