What If It's Briles?

One article, written by someone from ESPN does not transfer into a quality OC in the NFL.

Well they did go 3-9 last year and that new coach has them in the BCS Championship game and they already beat the Alabama team that nobody had beaten in a few years. Thats slightly more impressive than Briles IMO at least and we already know Briles isn't going to be the guy anyway so a new rumor must be started.

The only reason Briles' name was ever mentioned was because he once coached RG3.

His ardent supporters/defenders liked to point out how he was successful in high school and at his college stops in weak conferences.

If that's all it takes to get NFL HC consideration...why hasn't anyone interviewed Jim Tressel?

Turned Youngstown State into a power and resurrected Ohio State...IMO,bigger feats than anything Briles has done.

Why? Because neither is cut out for this league and Nfl GMs and Front Offices know better.

Or, he could get an NFL job and make all his critics look like fools Chip Kelly coached for New Hampshire (powerhouse!) and Oregon (another powerhouse!). He's doing okay so far. Briles won't be our next head coach, but writing him off completely when he's never had an NFL gig and ONLY had major success in jobs he has had seems pretty unfair.

I write him off because if he was THAT good,he wouldn't have just been mentioned with us. There'd be a line of suitors for him.

IMO, the Briles candidacy was all a media fabrication.

We aren't in a position as a franchise to take a huge risk on a guy like Briles (not to mention the media shitstorm that would ensue). But that doesn't equal it being impossible for him to succeed as an NFL coach. The NFL is largely wed to tradition. Most teams wouldn't take a chance on Chip Kelly either. There's a reason why, generally, the NFL cycles retread coaches from one franchise to another, and only rarely takes a chance on a college coach. It's not because college coaches can't succeed in the NFL.
