this is definitely the 'best' idea for the fans.... IF it works. The ultimate goal is success, and Super Bowls. Being able to draft the franchise QB is best for us because we're in this for the forseable future, we're not a coach that may be looking at how he can keep his job.
That said, we're so desperate for a winner, it's not very often a QB like Wilson potentially becomes available. I know you mention Taylor, but I don't think he's got the goods to take us anywhere meaningful, and this roster is not constructed to carry a QB the way San Fran did (and I don't think that type of roster make up will win a SB any time soon. The days of Trent Dilfer are gone. Even Flacco played like an All Pro in the post season when the Ravens won their last ring. I think it centers around the QB and it's the haves and have nots.
