Okay, I got to admit I like what Peter’s said about his thought process here. Payne and Allen did seem to wear down and a good rotation is important. If he really was far and away their top rated player then taking him makes sense in the long run.

Yeah, when I get frustrated Adam calms me down.

Allen will be 30 and his contract has no guaranteed money after 2024. I don't see Washington giving a player that age a top 5 money deal with additional guaranteed dollars part of the way through a rebuild, so I think you are looking at Newton as a rotation guy in 2024 and a starter in 2025.

Besides, Mathis and Ridgeway seem like dubious options if there was an injury to Allen or Payne in 2024.

With the addition of Newton, I'm hoping they can trade Allen for an OT.

That's a tough trade. Perhaps a draft pick AND a guy like Trey Pipkins from San Diego?

Pipkins is likely to lose his job to Joe Alt coming in. He's 27 and grades out above average but has mostly played RT.

Again, when I went back on PFF and looked up the various linemen we have I was surprised to see that Cornelius Lucas graded out higher than Andrew Wylie at their respective spots at LT and RT, enough so that I think an upgrade at RT may be more urgent.

Wylie over the past two years in KC and then Washington has given up 18 sacks, the most of any RT in the NFL that has been a full-time starter.

And he doesn't play the premium of the two positions on the NFL, either. So, he was most often facing the #2 best defensive rusher.

They could well look to acquire an OT, but I think they feel a lot better about the OL than fans do. I think Coleman will be starting by mid-season if not before. And I pitched the idea of dealing Allen a week or so ago, but from everything I am hearing they love him, and he is feeling reborn with a new coaching staff. So I think it's an extreme longshot.

Allen does have experience moving out to DE on passing downs on his resume.

Potential ways to get all 3 guys on the field at the same time.
