Maybe a late bloomer? Had a poor first three years and a very strong final year. Either that or it could be the effect of switching schools and getting better coaching.

One thread running through Washington's draft under Peters and Newmark has been the accent on measurables.

Baptiste ran a 4.6 which was near the top for edge players. At 6'5 and 239 he has room to get to 245-250 and not lose much speed.

When you are picking in Round 7 you are usually going with choices that are a swing for the fences and Baptiste sort of fits that mold.

Washington could have been more conservative and simply drafted a guy that has a better chance to make the roster and slot to a role on special teams, but Peters wanted a pick that had a CHANCE to contribute more on the regular defense as he develops.
