Catching up on McShay's podcast. Him and Muench thought Antonio Williams was a great pick and would start right away.

McShay -- loves this pick, underrated, sudden. Great route runner. Decent YAC player. Touts his 1.8% drop rate. "I think he comes in to Washington and he's starting right away"

They go even though Clemson has more talented WRs, but he was their best WR. He is should an important part of their offense, their security blanket.

I think he will be one of the best things that ever happened to Jayden Daniels.

Good news is he probably won't need to do too much kick/punt returning. We have several other guys that can do that. But we have him just in case.

When guys lose their job or get demoted, I like to make up for it by giving them touches on returns. Luke was good on kickoffs last year. Let him do that with Lane on the punts

So many passes were thrown behind him or thrown to him with defenders coming down hill with leverage that YAC was often an afterthought to surviving.

When he got the ball in stride he was able to get good YAC. He’s not going to break many tackles, but he’s in open space when he catches it in stride. So he gets YAC by default.

Cad Klubnik (and the whole offensive scheme) did nothing to help him this year. We've all seen what the Ben Johnson offense did for ARSB... we'd be silly to no lean into that potential strength.

So I love the pick after having had a bit of time to think on it.

I’ll be shocked if Luke McCaffery doesn’t make this team, but there is competition for sure. Here’s the list as far as I know.

A lot of talk about our receivers, but we can find 5-7 good ones in this group. We may also add Aiyuk, Deebo, or some vet free agent.

In terms of who I most want on the roster, I would rank them:

If we add Aiyuk or somebody else Jefferson is probably out and Lane hangs on because of special teams. I really think Jefferson and Burks are more on the bubble than Luke or Lane because of the special teams piece.

You never know though, somebody could emerge or fall flat in the competition to make this roster, and nobody besides Terry and Williams is a complete lock. Should be fun to watch.

I like your list but most tines only 6 make the roster and I like Burks over Luke. If Aiyuk comes then he goes to 2nd until proven that he is washed. Somebody may not make it. I don't think they want to get rid of Luke or Lane yet but someone out of the top 7 will be gone, just like Mcnichols may be out at RB. I think that this guy is just a fan though and more of a Luke hater. Doesn't mean that he won't be right though

The fascinating part of this lis is that if they go for seven then you cut Van Jefferson (my choice) add Aiyuk and you're good to go. If you only keep six it gets tricky. Which of Dyami, Luke, or Lane would you cut? I guess the preseason competition would decide it.

I'm not sure there is a single receiver not named Terry that isn't a cut candidate. We won't cut Antonio, either, obviously. But everyone else is "may the best man win". They are all under one year deals aside from Lane and McCaffrey, but I'm not sure that saves those guys, either.

McCaffery and Lane probably have a slight edge because of the investment we’ve made in them and their special teams play, but I agree. Terry and Antonio are safe, everybody else is in competition for maybe 3-5 spots depending on free agency and how many we keep. May the best men win.

I now believe (thank god) that barring injury, Van Jefferson does not have a shot at this roster. Which makes him good veteran fodder for training camp, someone who knows how to work and can be a good baseline JAG for the younger guys to compete against and beat out. You need a couple of those guys in camp.

If Aiyuk is added at a later date, someone else’s roster spot may be in danger. Especially since this crew will want to keep 4 RB’s likely, and potentially 4 TE’s.

I currently see it, in regards to roster safety, as:

Add Aiyuk and it’s 7. Non-zero chance one of these guys above (or Aiyuk) gets nicked up and starts on IR or PUP.

The LSU UDFA feels like a good bet for the PS if he flashes at all in preseason, he’s a knucklehead with consistency issues so he can show growth or GTFO in future years. Van Jefferson as a vet presence on the PS who can be elevated if needed due to injuries feels like a lock as well, if he makes it through preseason healthy.

Say what you want about Dyami but he had 5 catches for 89 yards and a TD at Tampa in the playoffs and then 6 catches for 98 yards the following week in Detroit. Even at Philly he had 42 yards which is a great game for Luka and Lane

Agree about Dyami. I have him ahead of Burks to be that outside guy for exactly that reason, he’s done it with Jayden in big time moments. Interesting note: Dyami had a 75% catch percentage in 2024, when his career average is 57%, there was real chemistry between him and Jayden.

The thing about Burks is he only caught 10 passes and 1 touchdown and had a pretty low catch rate. I think he is on the bubble for sure. He was a number 1 pick though, and that 1 touchdown was one of the best catches I’ve ever seen, so who knows?

McCaffery has a 74% catch rate and he’s good on kick returns. In 11 games taking 30% of snaps, he had three touchdowns plus a handful of good catches including 33 and 50 yarders, not so bad for a project. I will be shocked if he doesn’t make this team.

Lane is tougher to say. He had two punt returns for touchdowns, so big special teams value, but less success as a receiver, only a 50% catch rate, plus he had three fumbles. I think he is on the bubble moreso than the above, but you probably keep a second year guy you spent a third round pick on.

As somebody said, the only people who are 100% safe are Terry and Antonio, and the competition should be good. I will say having Antonio in the mix really makes the depth chart look better.
