Well, certainly I’m glad we won. The fire of the hatred I have for the Giants and their organization burns like 1000 suns. I’m definitely a little concerned about our team in DC. I’ll temper my concern with the fact that Daniel Jones always seems to save his best effort for us. He will go back to being Daniel Jones next week.
I think Canadian Hog covered most of the bases on individual performers pretty well and I agree with his assessments.
My concerns:
The defense has not played up to the hype so far. I haven’t watched the coach’s film or anything so I’m not sure if the problem lies in the game plan or the individual performances. Either way if the defense doesn’t become the dominant unit we all expect it to be this team will struggle. I don’t see us as a “shootout” type team. The offense is a work in progress. Asking them to score 30 every week isn’t realistic.
We caught several breaks. If Slayton catches a pass that one of us could have caught in our back yard after a big Thanksgiving lunch, we go down 30-20 with 6:19 to go in the 4th and this game is likely over. In general I thought the Giants’ play calling was….suspect at times. They had another chance to finish us off after the interception but instead they ran the ball three times into the teeth of our defense and kicked the FG. That’s loser ball. One first down seals the game. The off-sides at the end of the game was icing on the fail cake. They earned that loss. Having been on the other side of that way too many times….I’m not complaining.
I was glad Hopkins had a chance to make good on his second try. My money is on him NOT being our kicker by the end of the season.
What I want to see:
Heinicke needs to clean up his mechanics up a bit. Most every throw was high last night. To the credit of our WR’s they worked hard and went and got those high throws, but high throws lead to tips and INTs. It also doesn’t allow our WRs to get any yards after catch either.
I want to see Cosmi progress. I watched Cosmi as much as I could and he looked overmatched at times and very good at times. That’s most every rookie. He will improve.
