Cousins watched too many Romo highlights on "how to give away a game" for my taste, he's what he was drafted to be, a backup.
I agree completely.. that was not an endorsement for Cousins... just a statistic mark for our QB

Cousins is ranked number 10 in passing yards and didnt even play the first game of the season. The Redskins offense as a whole is ranked no. 5 in passing yards. Yeah you can make the argument that we've been behind, but the offense still needs to execute. This isn't a justification for Cousins as much as it's an indication that this offense has the ability to score points. We're averaging 22.7 pts a game with our backup QB and a struggling run game. Our defense absolutely needs addressing, and I wont dispute that... but the offense has talent, and has shown the ability to execute. I also understand it's skewed because of the Jacksonville game but were STILL averaging 18.2 PPG over the other 5 games which includes games against 4 top 15 (based on PPG against) defenses. 22 points a game ranks us 21 but top 10 teams are at 26 PPG. That's 5 points. If we can get Alf going, and Griff can come back healthy.. we've got the serious ability to be a top 10 scoring offense in this league. THAT is not inept. We finally have a legitimate threat that can possibly score every time he touches the football.
The defense is inexusable right now..... I understand that, I agree with it, something has to change there. If I'm Gruden, I seriously consider making a change at DC over the Bye week. If there is going to be a change, don't delay it. Use this season to gain live fire reps for young players in a 'new' system.
That all being said, I still don't think were a dumpster fire. We've got talented, valuable pieces in key places and need to address others. We won the freaking division 2 years ago. I dont care HOW good a coach could POSSIBLY be, talent is required to win 7 in a row and win the division in the NFL. A talentless team cannot pull that off.
I never said our offense was in good shape.. I'm just not supporting the notion that we need to sell the farm. offensively we have some things to hang out hats on.... things that prove we have key talent key places. We desperately need to address the right side of the line... but if you think about it... what else is a glaring hole on that side of the ball? Here's the rub I have with your assessment relying on the stats to assess our offense. Do the stats show how many possessions opposing teams are getting because our offense cannot stay on the field long enough to chew up clock? Does it tell you how many times the defense stops the oppsoing team on the second half after making adjustments that give our offense the opportunity to take control of the game.
Sorry brother, I do not agree with your assessment that our offense is in good shape. We have a lot of work to do. Are there pieces of the puzzle in place? Absolutely. A trade for DeSean is not an option in my mind...it shows impatience. A trade for anyone at this point (unless we get true value) is a non-issue.
We simply need to give it 3 years to turn things around on a team so talent deficient...offense and defense. Sure, we have some skills players, but we do not have the core on offense or defense...the lines...to be a dominant team. That takes a couple years to build...the correct way, through draft using free agency to compliment those young players.
I like the Jackson signing, glad we got him. I would rather have had the top rated RT in Free Agency...much rather!

Yeah I'm not saying either lavauo or Licht are pro bowlers but they aren't liabilities either... at this point.Licht has filled in adequately, but there still is not enough push coming from him. Lavauo is serviceable, but he is not the answer at LG. The only player on our OL is TW who could start for another team. We need to spend at least 2 of our 4 1st and 2nd round picks over the next 2 years on OL help. I say 2 of 4, but I wish it would be all 4. I know we can't though, if we do draft in the top 10...we need a top rated CB to compliment Amerson. I think he is getting it done, but he is not a shut down corner...yeah, I used that term.
I'm NOT endorsing Cousins...read the thread.... i agree that he's not a good starting QB.. so a pedestrian qb in this offense can be a top 10 qb statically with this group of players tells you we have talent...This is too easy: What's Cousin's W/L as a starter?
TDs to INTs?
Please, Cousins is a pedestrian qb in the NFL.
Holy crap dude... the whole response was that we aren't as far off as people want to think we are and how a pedestrian qb who is a career backup can be top 10 in yards... I'm not advocating for cousins...The stats you quote are irrelevant. The one stat he fails at is W/L. That's how qbs are judged in the NFL.
Cousins is Rex.

Then don't cherry-pick stats.
He's had his chances. He's not improving. He's not good in the second half.
Sorry, but I've soured on the guy. I can't wait for RGIII to return.

How am i being naive? What have i said that is innacurate. Where have i refered to cousins as anything other then a backup? I havent. Ive only shared that i dont think selling the farm is a good idea and that we may be 1-5 but its not time to start dumping everything. Statistically this far our offense has been able execute a gameplan... Until cousins decides to panic and start playong 500I'll stop being negative when folks stop being naive.
Our team is pretty lousy. We're 4-18 right now.
That's bad.
Here let me throw this out there. We've had GREAT stats on defense against the run in past year. Why? Because teams were breaking records throwing against us.
Stats lie...except for W/L.
Closer to being better then 1 and 5, then we are a defunkt team that needs to start a firesalegot it. not sure how one stat correlates to an argument. it doesn't....btw.
first...you have to define the criteria for "not that far away". then you see if the data backs you up. come to think of it...not that far away from what? your whole concept is rather open ended.

Rex had great stats, too. Except for those pesky INTs.
Have I made my point?
Weve gone from 14pts a game (iirc) to 22.... Not long ago we would have given an arm for 22 pts a game.I'm not singling you out.
What irks me is that anyone in our fanbase is saying anything positive about our team.
We are not improving in any department on the team. ST's gave a game away. Defense is abysmal. And, well you know the story about the offense.
We're just not good. And, we're not improving. When we start winning, I'll concede we are improving. But until then, we should all realize that we have a lousy, losing team.
