Washington Post: Why Fox replaced Pam Oliver with Erin Andrews

The news Monday was stunning. Pam Oliver is being moved to Fox Sports’ No. 2 announcing team and will work the sideline no more after this coming NFL season.

Erin Andrews, hired from ESPN by Fox in 2012,* will replace Oliver with the top team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Among those who were stunned was Oliver, who resisted the move for the 2014 season and wanted to complete her 20th year reporting on the sidelines of the sport’s biggest games.

Don't shout at me - I know her replacement has got some...err...assets, but Pam Oliver is a sideline legend. Erin effing Andrews is fluffy eye candy who wouldn't know a good interview question if it walked up and bit her on the ass in her hotel room. On the other hand, if you have peephole video of a good interview question biting her in the ass in her hotel room I'm glad to take a look.

I'm all for the lovely better half but this one is not only an insult to Pam Oliver, it's an insult to all real female sports reporters.

Pam Oliver looks like one of the creatures from The Dark Crystal!

I think the sidelines people that interrupt coaches and try to grab players is annoying. You can tell they don't want to do it...

But that's not to take away from her skills or give any to Erin.

Erin ain't got nothin on Suzy Kolber tho.

Now if Fox wises up and gets rid of Fakeman we'll be cooking with gas!

Suzy Kolber is great too. I actually think Pam Oliver is a good looking woman. Point is, it's insulting to the intelligence of football fans and women when someone devoid of talent gets promoted and ousts someone who actually knows something about the sport and has paid her dues about 10 times over.

You really think she is devoid of talent?

Dang..

I heard rumor that Pam was more the a legend on the side lines... I pay about as much attention to sideline reporters as I do to Goose, which the blurb on him was spot on, and pretty dam funny too.

I have listened to Pam Oliver fumble her reports on the sidelines long enough. Good riddance!

Unfortunately, this report means we are likely to see more of her for Skins' games...

Either one is fine. Don't really care one way or the other.

I've always thought Erin Andrews wasn't as bad as her critics make her sound, nor as good as her supporters make her out to be. She does just fine with her sideline reporting. People I think see her looks and stereotype her. They think she is a bimbo no good at her job. Then the other half sees her looks and feels she can do no wrong.

I think sideline reporters are mostly useless. The only information they provide is injury updates, which the network can have a runner down there get the info and the announcers and let them relay it. But these reporters are so integrated into the game that you can't get rid of them now. So if we are going to have them, I'd much rather it be a woman who is fun to look at.

Agreed. Sideline reporters are as useful as a fur sink liner. If they're gonna have one, they should follow boxing's lead, and put them in a bikini and high heels. That's all they're there for.

You want Goose in a bikini?

I don't disagree on the sideline reporter thing. My only point - maybe because I've seen up close how hard these folks work- is that Oliver who is a total pro is getting screwed out of a 'starting gig' by someone who's only real talents we've all already seen and who is by no stretch of the imagination her equal.
