Washington Commanders: Impact Additions 2024

White was a Player Personnel Intern for 2 months for the Lions in 2013. That must’ve been what we were thinking about

Either that or big 5 letter furry carnivores are all the same to us?

Regarding the Brandon McManus situation- I believe in the tenants of our judicial system but this is going to drag on for longer than the team can afford. The attorney for the plaintiffs is well established as a bulldog and considering depositions from both a sheer probable number and the inherent scheduling logistics, this is not going to be over before training camp begins.

 

[Boone]

Setting aside the ‘moral’ aspects though, while grinding on flight attendants is awful behavior is it really something that gets an NFL player released? Whether it should is another matter.

In the scale of possible acts, what McManus is purported to have done, while gross and wildly inappropriate, seems like something a player might get a fine or a couple game suspension for. Then again, we’re talking about a kicker here so maybe they agree to a settlement in favor of moving on drama free, especially in light of the teams not-so-remote issues with workplace harassment?

Not that it is, nor should be a consideration, I will readily admit that the term ‘sins of our father’ popped in my mind.

Really enjoyed the pod and why you each chose your impact rookie/FA, as far as McManus goes I'd previously commented in the random thread. For me, all about the meat inside on the defense. Can Wagner replicate Fletcher and be our rock in the middle for another 5 years, I hope so, I feel so but I also feel young until I try and stand up from sitting on the ground. For the rookies, impact there's who I want is Coleman to be the diamond in the rough and who I think will have the most impact which is Newton working in rotation but getting some healthy numbers on the DL.

What I love about this topic is that there are so many reasonable choices for impact players.

Is it a Sinott? A Daniel’s? A Coleman? A McCaffrey? Maybe it’s a Sinrastil )sp) or even a Magee.

Sure, this may turn out to be about offseason hope, but it’s good to feel hopeful again. Last few years, hope topped out at lucking our way into an 8-8-1 season.

I'm hoping they keep an eye open to the college ranks and the semi-pro ranks. I'm sure there are some vets out there too, but there are a lot of big legged, accurate kickers out there looking for their chance. I think I remember hearing about some UFL guy who kicked 20+ in a row during their season and while the announcers were talking about that he made another from 54.

I don't think coming off 4-13 that our kicker is set to be a major focus of attention relatively speaking to other positions for 2024.

My guess is the team signs a veteran kicker over the summer who has had some demonstrated success in the league but may be another 31-32 year old guy that is more about patching up the position than adding a guy that is going to be here for the next 5-7 years.

I wouldn't expect Washington to trade a draft choice to pick up a kicker, we are not in the position of a KC or SF where that extra late field goal in January is the difference in advancing to a Super Bowl, at least not yet.
