Washington Commanders 2024 Schedule Discussion

Not many frequent flyer points to be gained this season.
 
Things that interest me about this schedule at first glance:

- NY twice in the front half of the season
- Philly and Dallas twice in the back half of the season
- Thursday night w/ Philly before our Thanksgiving game with Dallas - so we get a full week to prepare
- Dallas on Thanksgiving (national) and Dallas TBD the last day of the season (maybe national)
- 4 PM game with a playoff team on opening day even though it's an East Coast game (national?)

Feels like the league is almost showing us some love here.

I'm suspicious.

One correction. The first Dallas game is at home and is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. So they get 10 days to prepare for Dallas.
 
It’s a pretty favorable schedule in many ways.

Divisionally, we get NY early while we’re still settling in and having rookie growing pains. I’ve seen them predicted to go with 4 wins this year, so we may be able to snag those. I’m hoping that with a new coach and staff, new QB, and a fresh attitude, we won’t collapse against them like last years embarrassing losses.

Talking coaches, Dallas should be at least a little weakened as we’ve poached their coaches and players. Plus DQ should know Dallas pretty well to game plan against.

Philly should be into their late season collapse period when we play them 😂😂
Plus, as long as we’re healthy Daniels and our rookies should be rounding into form.

The Chicago game could be a toss up being so early.

Pittsburgh and Atlanta are both breaking in new QBs albeit veterans. But Wilson was terrible last year and Kirk is coming off a serious injury.

Tennessee and Arizona are beatable IMO.

I’m optimistically going for 8 wins this year.
 
Hmmm - got a late season bye again.
 
Until we become a better team or I overcome my Norvousness, I don't think I'm capable of looking at a schedule and thinking... "This is a favorable or easy schedule."
 
Yep, and injuries tend to distort the level of difficulty in real time.

You have a schedule where a number of high visibility quarterbacks go down and you end up with wins that going in looked to be losses.

I don’t know how many games this team wins if Daniels goes down and Mariota starts a number of games.

Wasn’t too impressed with him the past couple of times I saw him on the field.
 
That Arizona game is going to be tough playing monday night and then flying out west man that is not good.

I really think the team should only play thursday night games after a bye week,
 
If they go to 18 week season and add a second bye week, then all Thursday games, with the exception of week 1, should be after a bye. I’ve thought that for a while. Sadly though, the league is going the other way and having more games on short rest. They are having games on Saturday before Christmas and then Wednesday on Christmas Day. Their justification is that teams for years have played on 3 days rest. So it’s going to take a lot to see them institute a bye before short rest games
 
so much for the NFL's interest in player safety. It seems pretty intuitive that playing more games on less rest and recuperation is going to lead to 'X' more injuries.

I think we all know the safety thing and the rules around it are just to appease people who don’t play football. Adding more games is fine in their book because they “made the game safer”. It’s crazy to me because the solution seems so simple.
 
Gents:

I really enjoyed meeting the BGO crew at the home opener last season (little did we know at the time that it would be the highlight of the entire season).

My wife and I have since moved from NJ to Florida. We are 75 minutes north of Raymond James Stadium, and plan to attend the season opener in Tampa. I am happy to host the BGO crew for an extended weekend opening weekend. It's the start of a new era of football sans the stench of Danny Boy Snyder.

I am also trying to organize an extended weekend in NOLA with a bunch of college buddies and our sons - it has the potential of a fun weekend!

ROAD TRIP!!!!
 
Although this team’s past scrimmages against outside opponents have been counterproductive and embarrassing I love that we’re doing this.

Miami is a good playoff quality team whose speed is challenging. This should teach the team a lot.

I don't think they've been that bad. It's almost satire at this point where reporters say "practices will go until there's a fightand the coaches calle it."

Tempers flare at most of these practices which is the headline, though i think most of them are very beneficial.
 
Well, Snyder's Skins didn't look very good facing off against the New England Patriots in offseason practices a few years ago but those were NE clubs that won 13 or 14 games. And again we had Snyder and Gruden here as the coach with Bruce Allen sitting in the shade drinking his martini.
