UVA’s Tony Bennett retiring effective immediately

I hope this is just a personal decision and not related to anything health-related. Regardless, I am crushed. Greatest coach in Virginia sports history and a wonderful human being.

Virginia basketball will never be the same.
 
My guess is that it is related to the changes to college sports created by the NIL landscape.
 
That’s sort of what I’m hearing. I don’t know how the NCAA endorses changes that are so bad someone of Tony Bennett’s character and reputation walks away? What an indictment that would be…

There are a lot of college coaches that are pulling their hair out dealing with the new mercenary-like environment. It had a lot to do with Nick Saban walking away.
