FEDEXFIELD TO HOST SOCCER MATCH BETWEEN U.S. MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM AND GLOBAL POWERHOUSE BRAZIL

ASHBURN, Va. – FedExField, home of the Washington Redskins, will host a match between two of the world’s most competitive soccer teams when the U.S. Men’s National Team battles five-time World Cup champion Brazil on Wednesday, May 30 at 8 p.m. ET.

The match, in which both teams’ “A” squads are scheduled to appear, will feature U.S. mainstays Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Carlos Bocanegra and Tim Howard. Brazilian stars include Neymar, Dani Alves, Robinho and David Luiz.**

The game will also mark the first time the United States will play at FedExField, as well as the third time in four years the Washington Redskins will host an international match. In 2011, FedExField hosted the highest-attended soccer game ever in the D.C. area when 81,807 fans watched Manchester United defeat Barcelona, 2-1. In 2009, 72,368 fans saw Real Madrid beat D.C. United, 3-0.

“This is a great opportunity for sports fans to see the U.S. Men’s National Team play one of the world’s most prestigious and iconic soccer teams in our nation’s capital,” said Redskins Chief Marketing Officer Mitch Gershman. “During the past few years, we have shown a commitment to bringing high-profile and international events to the Washington, D.C. region. We have already begun discussions to host another major international soccer match at FedExField in late July.”

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. ET through www.TICKETMASTER.com, Ticketmaster Phone Charge at 800-745-3000 and at all Ticketmaster ticket centers throughout the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia region.

Redskins’ suite and premium season ticket holders enjoy a right of first refusal for the match. They will be notified in the near future regarding their opportunity to purchase tickets. Redskins’ general admission ticket holders and Redskins’ Wait List members, as well as D.C. United and Baltimore Blast season ticket holders will also be able to purchase tickets in the presale.

General Admission ticket prices range from $40 to $105, with premium seating costing between $110 and $135. VIP packages will also be available. Groups of 30 or more can begin placing orders on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. ET through ussoccer.com or the FedExField Ticket Office at 301-276-6050.

The match adds to an all-star lineup of events at FedExField as part of the Redskins’ commitment to provide diverse entertainment options including premier college football games, world-class performers, international matches and more.

Four-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney will bring his 'Brothers of the Sun' tour to FedExField on Sunday, Aug. 12. Chesney will co-headline the concert with three-time Grammy Award winner Tim McGraw. Chesney's 2011 'Goin' Coastal' tour, which stopped at FedExField, entertained more than 1.3 million fans and was the year’s biggest country tour.

FedExField will also host more college football in 2012 when James Madison University plays West Virginia University on Sept. 15 and Virginia Tech plays Cincinnati on Sept. 29.

Yeah, I might have to attend that game.

And I know we don't talk much about soccer round here, but did anyone see the game between Chelsea and Man U on Super Bowl Sunday? That was one of the most impressive games of soccer I have ever seen with one of the greatest saves I have ever seen by a goal keeper.

Should be more competitive than your usual friendly because this "friendly" tour is pretty much Brazil's warm up for the next World Cup which they don't have to go through qualifying tourneys for.

Too bad it's on a Wednesday and so expensive :(
