UDFA thread

Do you think they are going to have Collin Schlee, QB, Virginia Tech, change positions?

I think guys I'd try and get who, insofar as I can tell haven't signed anywhere yet:

Bru McCoy, WR, TENN - I've seen two weights on him, one says 209 (RAS) the other 230 (ESPN). The latter almost makes it look like he could convert to Tight End. NFLSE guys had him in their top 20 WRs at varying points. Another body and Kliff could probably think of fun ways to use him. Very little testing otherwise tho, like no 40, no 3 cone etc.

Jarey Ivey, DE, OLE MISS - okay his RAS is garbage, but he was looked at as a mid-round guy for a reason. I would be interested to see if he'd be someone you could maybe move into sort of a hybrid DE/DT position, maybe bulk up a tad. He's 6'6" 274lbs, his frame likely could add another 15 pounds and easily become sort of a 3-tech/5-tech guy. Walter Nolan is 6'3" 293 according to drafttek.

This is what Ivey's RAS card would look like if he was a DT. Still "meh" but not nearly as bad as his 2.0 DE RAS:

And if anyone can bring out the best in someone like him it's probably Quinn and Whitt.

McKay as a developmental guy is very very interesting. Great way to keep filling the pipeline with potential talent after we’ve spent significant resources on new OL starters…I’ll be following him closely

A year into his career, I’ll also be paying attention to S Owens, the uber athlete we signed last year as an UDFA. There’s room to make an impact at that position on this roster

Awful lot of pressure to put on that young man.

Anyone else here think that our perspective on the safety position is skewed because of Sean Taylor?

Seems like every safety they sign immediately gets compared to Sean Taylor.

I think it is very primarily a nice, thoughtful ceremonial tribute by the team for the young man. He doesn’t have an NFL future (rated as the 80th safety in the draft in Brugler’s The Beast). Perhaps it was the only invite that he received, if not he could have chosen another.

it's the lingering though of 'what could have been.'

Sean Taylor likely would have locked down our safety position for over a decade, so everyone we bring in, subconsciously, I think a lot of fans try to fill that benchmark.

I hope there isn't too much actual pressure on Gabe. He's not Sean Taylor, he's Gabe Taylor, and I hope he's able to create his own path. He doesn't need to fill the shoes, in fact I dont want him to wear 21. Yes it would of course be a storybook tale, but at the same time, it's not fair to set that expectation. He wore 26 in college. McNichols wore 26 last year and we brought him back. I hope McNichols would not have a problem giving up that number, if they're both on the 53 man roster, as Gabe would be a 'legacy' guy.

According to the report, he had 'multiple offers'

Is this the kid at the end of that documentary about Sean?

I'll be shocked if he makes the 53-man roster
