Just for the record, I'm not really sold on Wentz as the right QB for Washington if that crazy transaction were somehow to occur, although I do think he'd put us in a better QB situation than we've had for 4-5 years (since Cousins). We've kind of worked our way into an untenable situation. Our QB of the future, who wasn't drafted by the new regime, looks at best like a project (2 years in). Our capable starter is old, on the cusp of retirement, and playing on one leg that could give out permanently at any moment. And we're winning enough to be out of the running for one of the first couple of QBs available.
That leaves us with some less than satisfying options:
1) Continue on the 'the project'. Buckle up if that's the plan.
2) Trade for or sign a castaway veteran (ie... bring in someone old, inconsistent, or frequently injured)
3) Draft a young QB in the first couple of rounds who no one has as a top 3 prospect. Yeah. I know. Teams find great QBs in later rounds all the time. But this team doesn't.
I'd really really like to draft a QB. But that scares the hell out of me. We cannot afford a project. We have got to find a young QB who learns quickly, is a team leader, and who by his 2nd season is productive and capable. Have to.
