I don't think so. We kept the higher of our two 3rd round picks. The 6th was one we got from the Saints for John Ridgeway. The 4th and 5th swaps were comparable picks. The Saints high 5th round will be close to our low 4th round. We got picks for two players we weren't keeping on the team and used them to score a CB1.

No. You take a lock down corner with anything up to a first round pick. As long as he’s going to continue to be a lock down corner.

So, what we have up is nothing for what we got. The contract we took in is the biggest issue but… I said weeks ago we will be a 2025 free agent #1 destination. Shelter said something along those lines the other day. I firmly believe they’ll restructure that contract and lock him up for 5 years in a way that’s overall fine for the team.

This team is good enough that the only reason to stock pile draft picks is for trade bait.

We’re gonna hit on a high % of our future draft picks not only because AP and staff are more talented and unincumbered, but because it’s way easier for rookies to join a team and end up a contributor when it’s a good team than a bad team.

Gonna guess this is just high quality GM work.

Sigh, remember when we put Darrell Green, Champ Bailey, and Deion Sanders on the field at the same time.

I was trying to think when was the last time we had a top CB. Since we use to be known to always have a great CB. Smooth was good but not great. Shawn Springs or DeAngelo Hall is who I was thinking. Champ Bailey before that. Lattimore will be excellent in this Defense.

Eh. You're probably right. But you never know. The thing working against him being traded is the possibility of him just getting cut.

That said, I think Peters would LOVE to find a way to trade him so they can transfer the rest of his contract to somebody else. It might be one of those "toss in" type things which actually reduces the overall compensation just to get a guy off the books. He doesn't have a huge cap number, but why take the cap hit if you can get somebody else to take the hit for you?

The Saints just restructured him. So they are going to be picking up a chunk of his salary. I am not sure how much of his salary is ours. But we are getting a 4 time all pro CB here. He is a true lockdown corner.

Lattimore at 28 is exactly the kind of player we would have been looking for in free agency 2025.

Healthy, he’s probably better than who would have been available to bring in at that time for no compensation in FA.

What you usually see in FA are the next tier down of zone corners and 31/32 year old vets who have slowed down a bit.

The neat thing is most of what they gave up is stuff they received by getting rid of other spare pieces.

If he can truly be the force multiplier I've hoped he will be, then giving up a 3rd and a 4th is well worth it. Also, he's not a 1 year rental.

I think his hammy injury magically clears up for reason which nobody will explain, yet everybody knows exactly why....

I like the move, I know this season was looked at as a reboot but that changed when the coaches and FO learned that JD isn't normal, his maturity is years beyond a typical rookie and the skills are off the charts. We have no idea what the future holds and JD will need a new contract after 3 years so when opportunity knocks, go for it. The reboot is dead, the team is ready now. We may or may not be the 2nd best team in the conference and that will hash itself out over the next several weeks but regardless this isn't a 6th or 7th playoff seed type team, we're better than that, how much better who knows but I like the FO being aggressive.

In a division that has Malik Nabers, CeeDee Lamb, and AJ Brown, it elevates the importance of having a true #1 corner even further. Considering the fact that we still have four divisional games, as well as a date vs. the Falcons on tap in what looks to be a tight race to the finish for the NFC East crown, Lattimore's arrival could not have happened at a better time. I am not sure you can get through the bottom half of our schedule without a Lattimore-type player in your defensive secondary. While we are exceeding expectations in Year 1 of a massive rebuild, the bottom line is that when you find yourself in the mix, you treat the opportunity seriously, as you just never know in a league that can flip upside down on you in a heartbeat.

I get it’s a joke but I think there’s some truth there. Players put more effort in when there’s a chance as opposed to a 2 win team that fires its coach mid season.

We may not be super familiar with the former but we’re absolutely familiar with the later
