Tidbit of the Week

Have I mentioned we have an ‘Ignore’ feature?

I just used it and it’s fabulous.
I was surprised by the pie in the face feature.

Want to know the quickest way to get to the forum main page? Click on the BGO logo from anywhere on the site and it will automatically load the main forums page.

For our next 'tidbit', let's look at the 'Post-Bit'. Every member has a post-pit, the rectangle that shows up every time you post. First thing I will point out is the gold quill pen in the right hand corner. You'll see that icon at the start of every thread and it identifies YOU as the thread starter. Even if you reply later in a thread, the quill pen icon will appear letting everyone know this is your thread. Note that you can pic an avatar of your choosing (either one of our Washington football related ones, or one of your own choosing). You can change it anytime and as often as you like by clicking on it and clicking 'edit'. If you don't choose an avatar, we auto-assign a generic 'BGO' avatar. Note that if you see a green circle icon at the bottom of a member's avatar, that means they are online now. You may have noticed that you have a 'user title' under your name ('The Starter', 'The UDFA', etc...). Those are based on your post count. Post more and you'll earn promotion to the next rank. You can identify founders, staff, owners, donators, etc... by the burgundy and gold tags you may see under usernames.

If you are wondering about 'Reaction Score' ... when other members 'react' to your posts, by selecting one of our 'reaction' emoji's (such as 'Like', 'Love', 'Disagree', etc...) some of those reactions will give you positive points, some of them are neutral, and some are negative. So your 'Reaction' score is the sum total of how people are responding to your posts. You also get 'Points' for starting posts and threads.

For our 'Joe Gibbs Club' members (members who make the minimum site donation), you will be bumped up to 'Premium Membership' with some extra bells and whistles. One of those bells and whistles is access to our 'Moods' feature where you can pick from hundreds of options to let BGO know where you are at the moment, spiritually speaking. Finally, if you desire, you can show your pride in your Alma Mater or your Military Service - those options if you elected not to identify them on registration, are available in your account preferences. If you don't see your college or university as an option, let me know and I'll add it for you.

The rest of the 'Post-Bit' is pretty self-explanatory, but if you have questions, let them fly!

This is like 2 months after you posted this tidbit, but I think it's somewhat related.

When somebody has a reaction to a post, you can see the reaction (like, dislike, love, confused, whatever), if you click on the reaction, it gives some of the same information which is in the post-bit. However, it also has that +0/0/-0 section. What is that? I thought it might be what would be added/subtracted to the posters reaction score, but it always seems to be 0's. Just curious.

That is from the classifieds add-on. I can probably hide that since no one is using the classifieds tool anyway.

In this week's 'Tidbit', I call your attention to two icons in the upper right corner of the site. The first is the 'Lightning Bolt' icon. Clicking on the lightning bolt will load 'New Posts' no matter where you are on the site. It's probably the absolute easiest way to see what fellow members have posted since the last time you were on BGO. It works great via our mobile site view as well. The 2nd icon I will mention is the 'Light Bulb' icon. For those of you who missed the memo, our default forum view is 'BGO Dark', the same classic black background the original Extremeskins site used. But if you prefer a more traditional white background, you can simply click on the light bulm and view the site that way. You can toggle back and forth between the two any time your little heart desires.

This week's 'Tidbit' is about Forum Icons. You may not have noticed, but the shade of the forum icon tells you whether it contains unread posts or threads. A full color icon means there are unread posts, while a faded icon means you've read all of the content in that forum.

In the example above, there are new unread posts in the 'Sons of Washington' forum, but all of the posts in 'NFC East' have been seen or read. If you want to mark an entire forum as 'read', open the forum and click on the 'Mark Forum as Read' button at the top of the screen. The shade of the Forum Icon is just a really quick visual cue telling you if there are new posts in that forum.

For this week's 'Tidbit', I point your attention to our 'Donate' Page. BGO is, has been, and always will be a free site. But it takes cold hard cash to keep her up and running, and it has become more expensive every year. Our 'BGO Ownership Group' shoulders a lot of the costs of keeping BGO up and running, but we can always use some help. Over the years, we have added many 'bells and whistles' beyond our core forum software, including our Media add-on, BGO Arcade, BGO Chat software, and most recently, our Podcasting software... just to name a few additional expenses. It costs thousands per year to keep a busy website running and updated.

Donations from our loyal members are ALWAYS appreciated. If you make a one-time $30.00 donation, we'll add you to the 'Joe Gibbs Club' and add you to our Premium Membership ranks. Premium Members get an ad-free experience, and access to all of the site's functionality, including our 'Moods' feature, profile page banner, and several other premium features. You'll be identified as a site supporter in your post-bit and have our sincere appreciation. Members of our 'BGO Ownership Group' (you can find a list on the 'About Us' page) are contributing members in good standing who commit to a monthly recurring donation.

Every cent of every donation goes to fund BGO upkeep or improvements.

We appreciate all of our members! If you want to help support the site, get a few more bells and whistles, and contribute, click that 'Donate' button at the top of any page

This week's tidbit is related to our BGO Logo ... Have you ever noticed that clicking on the BGO logo will bring you immediately to a newly-refreshed home page? It's one of the quickest ways to get back to the forums main page.

Now you know.

This week, we will highlight a new feature, the 'POTW' page (BGO Post of the Week), accessible by clicking the 'POTW' tab at the top of any screen.

Every week, that page will refresh with the top 10 posts based on member 'reactions' - how many times members have clicked on a reaction such as 'like' for a post. It's a quick way to see which posts got the most attention every week and to see if any of your posts got special attention from our community.

If you are new to the site since last season, you may not be aware that we hold a Weekly Game Chat for every Commanders game. We have great chatroom software on BGO and we invite every one of you to join us beginning with our Pre-Season schedule for our game chats. All you have to do is log-in to BGO, click the chat bar at the bottom of any page, and enter the Northwest Stadium chatroom. Once you are there, it's as simple as posting and replying (there are some other bells and whistles that we'll help you figure out once you get the basics down).

BGO Game Chats are a blast! We hope you will join us on game day in the coming season!
