Thomas out for the season

LOL at the Joe Thomas comment. You are probably right...

More than anything it would be great to see a plan to adressing the depth rather than a half hearted effort that includes signing XX journeyman player while the other primary option on the roster is a guy you've apperantly already given up on.

How about a stable of young draft picks with untapped potential to turn to? Such players might be similar to Rinehart, a player to build around, or something else in between.

One off signings of guys like Bridges don't reek of a comitment to adressing the issue.

well, around here anything short of bringing in Joe Thomas as a backup OT is going to have people concerned

let's face it, most teams don't have depth, or at least depth that is capable of performing at a high level.
What other teams may lack in depth, I have to think they make up for in greenhorns who, while perhaps not Pro Bowlers, at least have the potential to develop and improve--

That's a pretty big deviation from what we have--yes, we may have the same "Madden-esque" numerical Overall value in backups, but we lack a set of prospects and are working with a quickly expiring set of players who will very soon turn into completely depreciated assets.

Sure--there might not be an overabundance of available talent in the OL category, but there has to be something better than relying on 30+ year old injury prone players.

And finding that something is a real issue for the Redskins' Front Office.

Henry's dig is right on and that's why it stings.

Well, again the Skins don't prepare for this.

My suggestion, get Pete Kendall on the phone stat and make him a backup.
For the Lions game, start Rinehart and find out whether this draftee has any chance of doing anything for this team.

If he does, great.
If he doesn't get Kendall to be the starter, pray his knees can hold up and pray we don't have any other injuries.

Silver lining for now: we have better depth (not much but slightly better) at OG than OT. At least it wasn't Samuels or Heyer or we'd be royally screwed. We have NO depth at OT whatsoever.

It's sad that us armchair GM's have been saying this all summer but the pro's, the people that are paid to build this team, seem not to have cared at all

Good, its time to move on from the failed "Jetskins" regime....

Draft OL in 2010
Develop some young players for a change
Rhinehart put up or just go on
Bugel, earn some of your money by coaching for a change
Sick of the dependency on old vets on this oline
We are not different than any other offense and do not need Vets, we need brutes.

Thomas' career in Washington is likely over with a layoff until next offseason. He will be 34 and will have missed much of the past 2-3 seasons.

With Randy it seems as if he hit the same wall with his body that Jon Jansen did at 30.

Just couldn't stay healthy after that.

While there is no all-pro backup at OG, the situation is better than at OT.
There is a silver lining to this but it's not at OT. The team will be forced to play Rinehart/Montgomery at RG where let's face it, Thomas was going to be replaced next offseason anyway. This will at least give the team some regular season film to evaluate one or both of them.

Absolutely not for the reasons I cited above. It's time we started looking ahead, not back. Snyderatto's constant assertions aside, we're not winning a SB this season...probably not even a paloff berth. So, there's no point in bringing in a one season stopgap.

As for the silver lining being at OT, would you guys please for Pete's sake stop saying that. You're going to freaking jinx it. :paranoid:
